Well now, I didn't see this coming! Planetary Annihilation: TITANS was released today on Steam, and what a whopper of a standalone expansion it is.

I've always missed the epic battles from Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander with their massive experimental units, and now Planetary Annihilation: TITANS brings that into the fold.

It doesn't just bring massive units, they have also revamped maps with better choke points to duke it out over. Having more elevation in maps will be welcome, as there wasn't much of it in the original PA. Honestly, it sounds a lot closer to Total Annihilation, especially with the new maps they created with things like hilltops to fight over.

Anyone who supported them on Kickstarter gains access to it for free it seems, but if you purchased it afterwards you will have to buy it (at a discount too!). That makes me pretty happy, and will hopefully keep others happy too.

Warning: I have it downloaded, but it currently doesn't work.
It's now showing up for me as a separate download, it wasn't before, so all is fine.

I will write up a new post with my thoughts on the revamped experience when they fix it on Linux. It tells me I am running "Classic PA" and to quit and relaunch, then nothing happens. Loading it again, and still the same thing.

I couldn't be happier about this. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Ideas doesn't look bad and OP as still quite mild tone - makes it more constructive feedback.

I think the problem is that we know nothing what is going inside the company and what all ideas they have went trough. Maybe they have had reason not to implement things as you suggested for a very good reasons.

They got many insults there :

Although I think this is a good thing they release this update, I think the way they did so sends the following message to buyers of the original PA : "hey guys, we've screwed you with our crap, now please pay again", because including a tutorial as a "new feature"...

PCGamer: Planetary Annihilation: Titans resurrects a flawed RTS, and it's out today

I have started to hope that those people who can't handle announcements like this shouldn't support Kickstarter or Early Access games. It is sad when game's forum get filled of whining and insults instead of constructive feedback - unfortunately it happens very often with EA games.

The problem is that they make their previous customers pay again for what was promised in the original release. This is the reason for the insults.

Especially when you know that the original pre-alpha was sold about 90$...

Kickstarter projects doesn't meet the goals every time. People who supports Kickstarter or Early Access games has to understand that.

Uber Entertainment needs money as well to pay salaries, taxes, rent, etc. They pushed PA as far as they can in last 10 months. Maybe that was as much as they can do with the money that had.

No problem with this. But why they do make original buyers pay more while the new buyers get PA Titans for the same price as original PA buyers did, while original PA is removed from Steam ? Is it to force original buyers to bring more cash ???

And yes, putting a tutorial as a new feature is just... laughing at their previous customers.

I can understand they need money, no problem with it, however the way they do so is really not fair to their previous loyal customers. Personaly this is because of this that I ordered a refund, because they're really screwing us. (And this is the very first time I do so). Sorry to say but they behave like EA...

Ah, yes. Well, I can only think that they really required money to be able to continue and had to make this kind of decision. They tried another Kickstarter project (Human Resources) some time ago which failed. I guess that could had very big impact to their financial status as well since they had enough people to work on that project along with PA - because of KS failure those people left out of a project.

It is really hard to say what kind of situation drove them to make these unfortunate decisions. I personally believe they simply had to do so, to have a change to continue running the business.

I was more than happy to pay ~15€ more. I like the game a lot and I like to see more games from them in the future. It is good to see that TITANS has still relatively good reviews despite of "haters" giving the game bad points because of non-game related issues.
