It's not often I get over excited about a game, and I'm not entirely sure how this flew under my radar, but Shallow Space looks seriously good. You can pre-order now for $15 which will give you access to early builds when they are available. We never recommend pre-ordering, but this looks like it could be a safe bet since it already has Linux builds available.
The developer also confirmed Day-1 Linux support:
Their latest development video showing it off instantly won me over:

They already have an Alpha demo available for Linux, which you can download here. It has also been greenlit for Steam, so lookout for it soon.

The attention to detail in this game is pretty amazing. You can see turrets moving by themselves towards their targets, and hanger bay doors that open when you launch frigates, and it looks incredible.
I tried two rounds of the demo after watching the tutorials, and found it to be delightful. The controls really are quite simple, and easy to get to grips with unlike some other space games I've tried in the past.
I think they could be onto a winner here.
It's due for an Early Access release around Autumn/Winter this year, and I'm a little bit excited for it now.
The developer also confirmed Day-1 Linux support:
@gamingonlinux Hey thanks! we hope to release on early access in the next few months, Linux support from Day 1;)

Yes, this is hyped a lot in recent months for good reasons. Can't wait for release!

Looks like my cup of tea (although I am currently on GPRS, so I can't say for sure).
I've been waiting for a game like this one to come to Linux for a long time. I spent many hours with Sins of a solar empire back then :-)

Looks like the devs really know what they are doing. Could be a real gem.

... Also, we don't know how good it will run even if the binaries are there.
