As usual our friends at GOG have sent in a key, it's using the new installer system they have and it works like a charm. It uses the same data directory for saves as the Steam version, so the DRM free version picked up my progress from playing it Steam, how lovely.
The game will store saved files here:
Quote~/.local/share/Terraria, or $XDG_DATA_HOME + /Terraria

I've been a fan of Terraria for... 4 years seriously? God... I'm so old. Anyway, sudden Linux support for a dearly loved but formerly not Linux compatible game calls for just one thing... re-buy under Linux!!
I have yet to hear any word at all as to whether just downloading the newly available Linux game files for games that were originally counted as Windows sales would be at all encouraging to a developer's impression of the demand for Linux support, but unfortunately I think it is very unlikely that it would help at all. I'm inclined to just shell out the $10 to show a little support, even though $10 is not an insignificant amount to me. Sigh.

Fantastic to see Terraria make such swift progress on their Linux version.
To mess around with items try the online Terraria Inventory / Character editor here:

I'm particularly waiting for TEdit to catchup with the 1.3.x update so I can terraform our Linux World as we like to build Giant Metroid Statues, and Dungeons in the Sky and in hell

Great to know that a binary version exists DRM free favoring the user/players.
Of course anyone interested in the fast measure of content in Terraria can checkout the thousands of items and blocks at the wiki and learn how to craft them.

Gog should really make proper client for Linux.
Downloading from the browser is horrible idea, since you can't pause and most of the people (I think) including me don't wanna use terminal to get their games.

I've been downloading with the browser since 2011 without any issues, can pause the downloads just fine. Never had to use the terminal either, just Firefox + downthemall addon.
I for one, dislike automatic updates, achievements and all the fluff clients have, the browser way is just what I wanted. The GOG Galaxy client for Linux will come at some point, there's no release date though.
