Testing The Latest Unreal Tournament On Linux

By -
It's been a while since I covered the new Unreal Tournament that's currently in Alpha, so here's a fresh look at it. The way to launch it has changed since we last covered it too.

You can download it here, but you need to be logged in.

To launch it you need to "cd" into this directory:
Quote/LinuxNoEditor/Engine/Binaries/Linux

And then run this:
Quote./UE4-Linux-Test UnrealTournament

Currently it seems there is no background image on the launcher, but there's supposed to be. Looks like that's a minor Linux bug.

The performance on my 970 on the highest settings even this early on is pretty good. The stuttering here and there in the video is just due to the overhead SSR creates when recording. It's actually quite smooth normally, and looks great.

It looks like it's really starting to come together, and I look forward to seeing it mature into a great free to play shooter. It will be nice to see more complete levels come together, and not full of place-holder art and textures, but that will come in time.

Have you tried it yet? What do you think? Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Quoting: KurremkarmerrukI can access their forum just fine...if I'm not logged in. The minute I log in the site will not load.

Trying to download since yesterday and I have the same issue as you. Anyone knows how to download or have the direct download url for the tarball?

Thanks.

"Trying to download since yesterday...."

I was having the same issue with this.

Some how it started to work for me, I logged out of the main UT Site and then opened the main UT forum page. There I logged in and went to the FAQ and also my own profile / settings. After that pasting the download link into the browser worked.

Thanks, but it didn't work for me. At last I could download the demo deleting the AWSELB forums.unrealtournament.com cookie.

Hmm, I can't seem to download it either. I can't seem to even get to the forums for some reason...
I have to say, those graphics look really nice, and it's only in alpha? Can't wait to see the finished product.

Dude. I am so fucking psyched. My family and I have been playing UT99 just to get into the spirit of this release. For years we've been on Xonotic, Red Eclipse and such but man this look fucking great. Thanks for the vid and info.

The original UT was my first online game - I'm gonna be all over this like a rash! A bit later.... 2.6Gb!

Then again who else remembers waiting what seemed like hours downloading the updates via a 56k modem hehe.

:)

Download just stopped :(
