The Forgotten Realms Archives Now On GOG For Linux, Eye Of The Beholder 1,2,3 & More!

I played almost all these games when I was young and I have very fond memories of them, but I have no desire to revisit them. I'm scared that playing them again now, some 25 years later, will destroy the romantic images I have of these games. I'd rather preserve my memories and keep my rose tinted glasses on.

Well, this will keep me busy for a while... I don't know if I ever played any of these, I may have played one on the Amiga, they do look familiar.
Where did they say that the third collection is coming to Linux? Did they give any estimate for when? Not that there's any rush really, considering how long it's going to take me to just play one of these games...

Kind of the same. I had EOB on the Amiga. That said I played Hired guns the other day and it was just as good. Albeit in much higher fidelity.

You might be thinking of Dungeon master which was an amiga game. I played all the eye of the beholder games also on amiga and they were also great. Dungeon master heavily influenced he legend of Grimrock.

Yeah, I definitely played Dungeon Master. Weirdly enough, what I remember the most about that game is that sound effect when eating something *gulp* :)

I dont understand this, why they revive DOS Games?I dont really get it , the same goes with Steam....
You think the new generation will play any of these retro games?? I dont think so..
Why paying for these games?

I'm not going to play a long RPG online, especially if I can't save and continue later.
And it's great for you that you have all these games already, not everyone does. I gave away my Amiga ages ago (I know, I know... stupid me), and even then I didn't have that many games. And I have to admit, the majority of my Amiga games were pirated, just copies from friends who got copies from friends... Now at least I can finally buy them properly. And I'm glad they are now easily available in a way that's accessible on any PC, and with easy installation. Also, I don't need to worry about looking up code words from the manual, they have apparently removed those checks or added tools to work around that. The manuals are all available as pdf, which I find a lot more convenient than having the books. Especially when travelling. And these games are perfect when travelling, can run on any laptop, don't need anything online, and don't instantly drain the battery.

Why not? Good games remain good, despite older technology used in them. Do you watch old films, or read old books? Classics remain classics, and same goes for (good) old games.

Despite having an Amiga 600 with 200+ games and a 486 PC I never played any of these games in my days as it was mostly Doom and other id software / Build Engine games. Judging from the screenshots I probably won't like Pack 2, the graphics are no issue, but the gameplay isn't my type.

Can't say the same for pack 1 and 3 though. First person, tile based and claustrophobic, going to enjoy many nights with those, starting from tomorrow :D

Eye of the Beholder 1 and 2 came out for the Amiga, the third did not. Though from reviews I've read, the third wasn't all that good.

Most of the gold-box versions probably look better with the Amiga version over these DOS versions as well.

Sadly the one out of this group I'd REALLY love is Dungeon Hack. think Dungeon Master/EOB meets Net Hack, I believe I still have a save game on my computer of a character I had live, but I couldn't find the stairs to the next level, even after checking every square on the map for a secret door.

By the way, the Adventures Unlimited game is basically an early version of Neverwinter Nights (Read that as basically an 'engine' for creating your own games) and there are (last I looked) a large database of adventures created with it.

In any case, we hope to have all 3 collections penguin compatible sooner rather than later, we just didn't have the time to iron out the kinks from the the 3rd collection before release :) I am confident our Linux team will get to the bottom of the issues with those two games :)

So... is it done yet? ;) j/k. It's probably a good thing for now that it isn't, with my ever expanding library in Steam, and my horrible spending habits, if I had yet another game store showing me sales of games that I probably will die before I have a chance to play... Granted I would probably much rather buy through GOG anyhow, due to DRM-less software.

Keep up the good work though with bringing back some classic games!

The answer is very easy: Because there is no difference within game mechanics at all. Most games today are only the newest generation of some mechanics invented those days. To get a concrete value for what doing today it is very helpful checking the past. Perhaps you don't like old games, but there are many people wanting to watch back. Also there were minor problems those days: No forced online check, no DRM, nothing to worry about just the game and much fun with it. These games might be old, they might be retro, but they are even better than just a cheap copy with modern graphics because they are the original. :)
