
Good news, the developer of Banished is blogging again and it's still progressing. I'm still really excited to give the highly rated harsh city builder a try.
The developer has noted a beta will open soon for the Windows version, as it will test the groundwork that has been done for the ports. So, it looks like we could still see Banished on Linux this year!
Looks like the developer has been busy, and time away from the screen is always a good idea!
About the game (Official)
In this city-building strategy game, you control a group of exiled travelers who decide to restart their lives in a new land. They have only the clothes on their backs and a cart filled with supplies from their homeland.
The townspeople of Banished are your primary resource. They are born, grow older, work, have children of their own, and eventually die. Keeping them healthy, happy, and well-fed are essential to making your town grow. Building new homes is not enough—there must be enough people to move in and have families of their own.
Banished has no skill trees. Any structure can be built at any time, provided that your people have collected the resources to do so. There is no money. Instead, your hard-earned resources can be bartered away with the arrival of trade vessels. These merchants are the key to adding livestock and annual crops to the townspeople’s diet; however, their lengthy trade route comes with the risk of bringing illnesses from abroad.

Sounds good. Unfortunately i bought it on windows at release and enjoyed that game so far. Then i switched to Linux and haven't played it since this time. Can't wait to coordinate my small village again and bring my citizens through the harsh winter time. :)

About farking time! I :'( did buy it for Windows, in my DB days, and hardly got to play before I said, after XCOM came out, "To hell with Windows!"

Well, I got Cities: Skylines for now where I try to rebuild some parts of Vienna, but Banished is a different setting, which I personally enjoy better than the Cities setting. I'd be pleased if it hits Linux, but I'm aware that the developer needs to focus on the Windows version, since a small indie needs to focus on the playerbase giving the major income first, despite if we'd like day1 releases, we'll have to cope with that :-).
Hopefully we'll get a port too, even if it's a delayed one, but if groundwork is already done I'm positive we'll see it one day. I'm sure I very much would enjoy that game, and I'd be happy to test it. I've played one of the betas too on a windows computer, it's on a track to become one of my favourites considering the setting and way it's designed.

Well, that's true. I wonder if he earned that well that allows him to do that, or if he's nuts :D. I just saw that Banished actually was already released for Windows. I played a alpha/beta version back then.
Without wanting to f** up our platform, but financially he probably will break even, but he won't do a huge profit. Maybe it's his ideology, maybe it's good enough for him to make some cash for a living, maybe it's preperation for the future, since it seems to use it's own engine, and learning for doing a cross platform engine is quite tough.

The developer is slowly but surely working towards Linux (and Mac) support, that much is clear from the last few posts on their blog. Seems like it's a one man effort and requires a whole lot of changes to their engine, which explains the slow progress.

This was top of my list in the "games you're looking forward to playing" so yay :)
IMHO it is a bit overhyped. As I got my hands on it and played around for a few hours (+20h) I was a bit disappointed and wondering if that is all. Yes, this is all! There isn't much content or complexity in the game.

If you like 20 years old graphics, then yes.
For me is this game and other "Pixel" games a no-go.
If i want Retro feeling, i turn on my uae.
