Sad, but not unexpected news as the Technical Director on Frostbite at Electronic Arts has said seeing their games on Linux is unlikely.
When asked why he had a simple answer:
That's fine, and completely understandable. The only reason we are getting some bigger games right now is Aspyr, Feral and a few others are hoping on a good future with Steam Machines, so it's not unexpected for a huge company like EA to not do Linux right now.
It's a shame, as before a member of DICE said they strongly wanted to get into Linux, so I guess it never worked out for them.
It is yet another reason why I really hope Steam Machines get included in the Steam survey somehow, I mean Valve want to show the market share for it has grown after release right? I do wonder how they will do this. I haven't seen them talk about this anywhere, so we will have to wait and see.
@HeavyHDx very unlikely

When asked why he had a simple answer:
@HeavyHDx less then 1% of the potential audience, even Mac (which we don't support) is more than 3x larger. http://t.co/o6DCeTCh4E

Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
Quoting: ricki42For EA games it's not just the engine, it's also Origin that would need to be ported.
Still, Mass Effect: Andromeda would've been nice.
Yes of course, but use the Steam HWsurvey for a stament is poor.
Realy poor and nonsense, if you don't have Linux with steam 4 linux installed to see how much you get the survey.
But i see it on windows, too.
I have my steam account since 17. October 2013 and i got 2 surveys on the native linux
client, one on wine and one on Windows native.
So i got 4 surveys in 2 years.
Do you see the irony?

There is some things I want from EA, like the Crysis series and Mirror's Edge. But for most of you, THIS is why I want they showing up in Linux:

Like it or not, EA is a giant in this industry, and will be very difficult see most people moving from Windows without EA and Ubisoft at our side too.

I'd kill two individuals of EAs' choosing to get BioWare titles, as well as SW:Battlefront on Linux.
Your loss EA.

I have to say that i don't care at all about to this, have always personally find a crap company even when in the times when i had only Windows, and only used windows to play my games.
The only game that i ever cared was Sim city, they managed to butcher that title too, and gotten blown away with city skylines.
Personally i think we are better off without them, i don't want this buggy shit, oh the bad memories with EA games from the Windows time are hunting me again.
EA = mass production off games, but also a very bad quality assurance.

Dear Johan, you are terribly wrong in your statement and it does not reflect reality..
Only a very narrow portion of Mac users have actually a half-decent GPU capable of serious gaming at least in 720p. Mostly only a few recent iMac´s in higher configuration with some nvidia GPU can deliver acceptable experience. Your "3x larger" market is much smaller than you think and multiple times smaller than current linux potential. Many user wants to dump their Windows copy, abandon that platform but something is still missing, force them to dual-boot. (hint:games)
But things have finally started to change this year thanks to Valve and fantastic work or Feral, Aspyr, Virtual Programming and others..
I was one year a Mac user, purchased expensive iMac with nvidia GT650M and the performance was on the edge of my tolerance, playing most games around 720p in medium details. It´s known that most Mac user are laptop users with some Intel HD graphics, useless for serious gamming so you cannot make from entire OS X market share "potential gaming audience", because it is simply not..
It was actually funny and quite puzzling for me when i have realized this fact after a year of Mac usage. I was not able to understand why publishers like Feral or Aspyr even bother to make ports for OS X, targeting very narrow group of users with more powerfull Macs, because in reality only a few OS X users can enjoy biggest AAA titles decently.
So in reality has Linux much bigger "potential audience" than Macs. OS X market share means absolutely nothing, when looking at through his "gaming potential". On the other side, linux gamers with their variety of gaming PC´s, that is a completelly different story..

EA ist the best example of a company completely profit driven. Maximum profit driven. EA only cares about customers when their numbers are big enough in complaints.
Though it's legitimate, there are enough examples that there is also a way to show passion about other even smaller things, with also making profit. Personally I hope in the long run, that these companies will be the real winners, and customers/gamers realize that a long term caretaking is what you want.
EA just recently removed several good games from the mobile app stores, because they don't make profit in long term supporting those games (Dead Space, Flight Control, Mass Effect: Infiltrator, ...). You paid for the games, but now they just remove them because they don't want to give you anymore support. Feels a bit like being stolen from.
I also like some games from EA, but I totally dislike their behaviour about customer care.

EA is another big company stuck in the old vicious circle "We don't make games for Linux because nobody use it, and nobody use Linux because all the games run on Windows"... And they will die with Windows
fortunately, big publishers like Deep Silver are not part of that vicious circle and both Metro Redux are solid evidence of that.

Quoting: IlyaThe question is not whether EA wants to get on Linux, the question is whether I want to play games by EA. Apart from Mirror's Edge I can't think of a single title I'd bother with. No, the question is would millions of gamers like to play EA games on SteamOS and Steam Machines.
I don't personally play EA's games but that doesn't matter. Even if I would hate EA, their games and Origin I still would like to see their games on Linux/SteamOS.
SteamOS/Steam Machines requires all games possible to be successful.
