If you read our interview with developer Kai Kubicek of Side Scroll Studios last month, you might remember that videos of the game should be viewed in at least 1440p for the best result. This is the first of his gameplay videos showing off the non-combat elements of the game:
The video was accompanied by an article on Indie DB explaining some of the game mechanics at display in the video. Here's the short list from the article, but both the article and video go into much greater detail about each element:
For updates on development, follow the game on Indie DB or the studio on Twitter.
About the game (Official)
Corpses ‘N Souls is a massive 2D Metroidvania fused with Diablo like ARPG mechanics with massive amounts of detail, progressive ideas and Next Gen 2D HD graphics.
Welcome to Corpses ‘N Souls - a game about combat, defense, harvesting, corpses, souls, crafting, spells, abilities, tactics, adventuring, collecting loot, progression, stealth and unique gameplay experiences.
Corpses ‘N Souls is set in a massive, detailed, colorful, vibrant, dark and ghoulish gothic sci-fi world blended with classic Metroidvania and ARPG mechanics. Your journey takes place within the E-K planets in the Epsilon quadrant of the Universe where you will choose a species and class to take on the challenges before you.
Become the master of harvesting Corpses and Souls or be one of its victims and be harvested yourself. As the Universe dawns the start of “Soul Revolution” no one’s Corpse and Soul is safe. Only you can choose the fate of your species, be the one to help piece together the “Keys to the Universe” and gain the upper hand in the impending “Soul Wars”.

Wow, that's seriously hard on the eyes. Everything is so neon and fuzzy, it's hard to make out what's important and what's background. Nice water reflections, though.

Hi, I am the developer of this game and the creator of Corpses 'N Souls. Thanks, I am glad you like the reflections.
The game is not fuzzy that is just YouTube if you select 1440p it makes it a bit better and if you also view it on a 1080p screen(this is not a pixel art game, the smaller the screen you view it on the worst it looks). Note its difficult to show off a high detailed 1080p game on YouTube since their bit rates are so low it damages the quality, this is normal.
Here is a cropped 1080p screen: * these are all WIP, I am still working on gameplay atm, this is from a demo area *
Source: cropped 1080p source screen
Here is a full quality 1080p screen(same one with the HUD):

Also note this is just a demo area that you see in the video where I implement technology and gameplay mechanics its not the actual games level.

Thanks for the article flesk, I appreciate your guys support.
Here is a GIF of the "Corpse Explosion" skill I did for this week's #screenshotsaturday, its a GIF so of course the quality is not like in game. I have to keep them under 3 megs so it's interesting to make one that is decent LOL :)
Here is a better version with more animation frames @ 30FPS not full 60FPS 30 FPS version "Corpse Explosion" skill
Also here are some new screen shot links for those interested, WIP of course of the demo area :
1080p cropped sections
Full 1080p
I am still focusing on implemented gameplay mechanics and some engine fixes so all the media is still early wip that I am sharing to you guys.
Enjoy, thanks

When I showed this demo to my wife and asked her what she thought, she shrugged her shoulders and said "It looks a lot like that other game you play all the time" to which I replied "Trine?" and she confirmed, "Yeah."
So, yeah, definitely a beautiful looking game :)

Very cool, I am a big fan of Trine 1 and 2 they are awesome games, I look up to them. So to have your wife compare it visually to my own game(which is 2D not 3D) is really cool and that you dig it as well. Thanks! I really appreciate that.
Sucks what happened to Trine 3 though I feel bad for the guys :( , its a good game just on the short end(but they explain why). I really hope they make 4 and build off 3 and not end the series. If $ was such an issue though they should really just go back to only 2D gameplay like in 1 and 2 and just follow that formula to keep the series alive.
