Stop the press! Hold the phones! Looks like Saints Row 2 will be getting the Linux treatment too. We are truly blessed with games recently!

If you see here on SteamDB, you will notice these:
Quote401480/config/oslist: linux
401480/name: Saints Row 2 Port Data
401481/config/oslist: linux
401481/name: Saints Row 2 Port Linux

That's looking pretty likely, but remember this is all unconfirmed right now.

About the game (Official)
Saints Row 2 brings true freedom to open-world gaming. Players can play as who they want, how they want, and with whomever they want in this sequel to the much acclaimed and tremendously successful Saints Row.

Set years after the original, the player finds himself in a Stilwater both familiar and strange and challenged with bringing the Saints back as the rightful kings of Stilwater and bringing vengeance to those who wronged him.

I will be grabbing a copy that's for sure. Remember to hold off until it's released, don't go buying it now!

Thanks for the poke about it dubigrasu! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Oh yes, I've enjoyed Saints Row 3 and IV a lot, looking forward to playing 2.

Hm... I was recently wondering about Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell, because it got a bunch of encrypted depots at about the same time as Saints Row IV. So maybe they're porting them all?

Saints Row 2 is a fantastic game, it's also notorious for being one of the worst PC ports. I wonder if the Linux port will be able to address some of the PC port issues, or at least incorporate or be compatible with some of the mods that try to fix some of the PC ports issues.

I was thinking the same thing. I actually played it on the Xbox 360 years ago because the PC version was so horrible, even though my hardware was stronger than the 360 at the time.

And now imagine that PC port wrapped by VP.

1.The windows port of SR2 was.......no so great.
2.So they must be making a new port for all 3 operating systems if they're bothering to port the game.

I smell an Aspyr port.

this is cool, I had SR2 on my xbox 360 as well, but purchased SR3 and SR4 for PC through steam when they came out. i've played them all to death. but I might buy SR2 on PC just to show some support there, and give it another playthrough.
linux_gamer 7 Sep 2015
Never played it, but reading the comments I really hope its not a Windows wrapper. If not I will buy it no question.
Beamboom 7 Sep 2015
Wow that came out of nowhere.

Guys, the Saints Row games are okay single player games, but fantastic coop games.

Please let these be native ports...

Saints row 2 on Windows was not that horrible some of you seem to think it was.

I played through the entire game twice (with friends) and sure, there was some horrible bugs showing and to be honest almost all cutscenes are bugged in some way. But you know, the game wasn't being too serious (well, a lot more serious then SR3/4) and a lot of those cutscenes bugs was just funny as hell.

If we talk about the actual gameplay there are like one or two super critical bugs but there was workarounds for that. Overall the game was really fun, especially with a friend.

I have to say, I've won all of the Saints Row games (except the first, which never came out for anything other than xbox, and Gat out of Hell, which I haven't bought yet) yet I haven't beaten a single GTA game.

They just seem more 'approachable' for some reason to me, probably because there aren't missions that are just freaking impossible (like some of the racing missions because I suck at those). But yes, I would play through the second one again on Linux if it were released.

I agree. I just can't get into GTA. I don't get the love affair people have with it, though I respect their opinions. The Saints Row series, on the other hand, has always been enjoyable for me. I even played through Saints Row: The Third twice and half of a third time with a friend in co-op. Saints Row 2's location (Stillwater) was definitely the best though. It would be nice if they gave it some love and cleaned up the PC version.

Indeed. The third game were a huge disappointment for me because of this. The entire map felt rushed, no special locations and nothing fun to explore. Also, the gameplay went *too* over the top.

Saints Row 2 is the best of them.

What?! Are they going to port almost all of them now - second, third and fourth? This is crazy, I can't keep up now.

Saints Row 3 & 4 were silly fun, to be sure, but Saints Row 2 was the best of them. Its unique mix of violence, humor, and smarts was wildly intoxicating and addictive. Even the AI could be hysterical. I frequently spent time just watching and listening to the citizenry of Stilwater interacting with each other. (Cops beating up a citizen then being attacked and killed by other, nearby citizens. Shootouts between two automobiles chasing each other in a circle until one of the cars explodes.)

I could go on, but [Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw's (probably NSFW) review video](http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/312-Saints-Row-2) does it so much better:

I will definitely be buying a copy of this game on Linux. :D
