Good news bat lovers everywhere, Batman: Arkham Knight will be available on Linux and SteamOS in Spring 2016.

The game has been through a bit of an iffy time, but hopefully all this extra time to polish it up will be worth it. I've seen one of the previous Batman games like this played, and it looked genuinely good to play, so I'm hopeful this will be a good one too.

Press release copied below:
QuoteBatman™: Arkham Knight coming to Mac and Linux in Spring 2016

This is due to extra development time needed to ensure good performance and wide-ranging support for OS X, Linux and SteamOS.

We would like to thank everyone who has pre-purchased the game for your support, and also for your patience while we work to deliver the best experience possible.

About the game
Batman™: Arkham Knight brings the award-winning Arkham trilogy from Rocksteady Studios to its epic conclusion. Developed exclusively for New-Gen platforms, Batman: Arkham Knight introduces Rocksteady's uniquely designed version of the Batmobile. The highly anticipated addition of this legendary vehicle, combined with the acclaimed gameplay of the Arkham series, offers gamers the ultimate and complete Batman experience as they tear through the streets and soar across the skyline of the entirety of Gotham City. In this explosive finale, Batman faces the ultimate threat against the city that he is sworn to protect, as Scarecrow returns to unite the super criminals of Gotham and destroy the Batman forever. It was already known than it was coming on Q2 2016, since xcom 2 is coming in february, and batman ak has been marked as coming after that one. At least now it's official.

Which makes me wonder why they (Feral and Aspyr haven't ported their Mac catalog over?

Though, I'm not complaining. They're doing pretty well as is with newer titles.

Just looked at the Windows patch notes.

QuoteFor Windows 10 users, we’ve found that having at least 12GB of system RAM on a PC allows the game to operate without paging and provides a smoother gameplay experience.

People are whining about this, but to be frank, this is why Windows 10 is trash for gamers. Well it's trash to begin with, but those complaining about this I doubt understand Rocksteady isn't at fault. Their launch was definitely their fault, but the RAM requirements is all on Microsoft's unnecessary background spyware noise. If they really don't care about their OS spying on them, Windows 10 users have no one else to blame but themselves in this situation.

Taken from one of the reviews: "I'm running a gtx 970 and an i5-4690k and I get mostly 60fps gameplay. However, when it comes to gliding and the batmobile the performance is just awful in some cases the fps goes to the mid 30's."

Having the exact same hardware, I'm not too excited about the port. Unless maybe expanding RAM from 8GB to 16GB would help, then I might give it a go - but still wait for proper Linux benchmarks before purchasing.

I honestly don't get this attitude, especially given that adding 8GB RAM to a system costs less than this game to begin with. ;-) When building my Steambox I bought only 8GB because at the time there was not a single game that would actually benefit from more RAM. But I left one slot free for another 8GB in the future, because that's how computing works and has always worked. Especially so with Windows - as far back as I remember, every new Windows release has always meant huge boost of sales of memory expansions. ;-)

Mmm... I wouldn't say such things in that situation. I don't know if it comes from the game or from Windows which is too eager to page, but let's not jump to such conclusions without some evidence. Unless you have some, of course ;)
The RAM requirements on Linux might even be (I highly doubt it, but it depends on how the game will manage it) higher.

About the other titles... I doubt they will come over to Linux, since this title is UE4-Based, thus the porting process should have been easier (minus the experience porters gained from the plethora of UE3 games ported). Speaking of UE games, I hope the UNREAL series will come one day :)

Oh, please - you're just a hating fanboy. This has absolutely NOTHING to do with Windows. The game runs like sh*t. Feel free to check out the Steam sub-forum. The Witcher III and Battlefield 4 run at 1440p with less than 8GB of RAM but the "amazing" Batman needs 12GB of RAM for 1080p. If you bothered to actually check things before you made absurd statements you'd know that Arkham City has sub par performance to this day and Origins is plain broken with WB refusing to fix it because there was no "Steam Refund" policy at the time of its release. Feel free to recall this come spring 2016 when Arkham Knight hits Linux and it runs like absolute a**.
