Good news bat lovers everywhere, Batman: Arkham Knight will be available on Linux and SteamOS in Spring 2016.
The game has been through a bit of an iffy time, but hopefully all this extra time to polish it up will be worth it. I've seen one of the previous Batman games like this played, and it looked genuinely good to play, so I'm hopeful this will be a good one too.

Quoting: MaelraneQuoting: tuubiQuoting: MaelraneI wonder whether this game will support AMD on Linux. I mean, it runs on both consoles...It doesn't run on OpenGL or AMD's Linux drivers on consoles. The lack of AMD support in Feral's ports isn't due to AMD's hardware being insufficient in any way. It's all about the software.
Interesting, as many have no problem with AMD, so I blame Feral and the FUD.
For example: CoH2: AMD not supported, runs like a charm on my old HD6950 with Mesa. I think they simply do not care at all. I guess they think the margin isn't worth the extra effort.
No you must blame AMD and his BLOB driver.
The blob driver is shity and the opnsource driver are much better (only for AMD cards).
The blob driver from AMD is the reason why Feral don't can realy support AMD Cards.

Quoting: MaelraneAs Feral has made clear, even if their games do in fact work on many AMD setups, they don't have the confidence to proclaim official support for AMD hardware (yet) due to many known problem cases. Nobody stops you from playing the games on unsupported hardware, but you do so on your own risk and should expect problems. Of course, the various store return policies are respected, which alleviates the risk. All this could very well be down to Feral's code as you say, or it might be due to AMD's drivers, who knows. And yes, there's tons of FUD going around, but I don't see Feral spreading it.Quoting: tuubiQuoting: MaelraneI wonder whether this game will support AMD on Linux. Apparently the Windows version still runs like crap, and you need a minimum of 12GB RAM if you're using Windows 10! Wouldn't it be ironic if Feral managed to get this running better on Linux than on Windows? Here's hoping.

Quoting: maodzedunI hope they port the previous games as well - Arkham City is effing amazing.I've been hoping for a while that all the previous Arkham games would get Linux ports since those are really the only games I sort of miss playing since nuking my Windows partition a couple of months ago.

Quoting: MayeulCAbout the other titles... I doubt they will come over to Linux, since this title is UE4-Based, thus the porting process should have been easier (minus the experience porters gained from the plethora of UE3 games ported). Speaking of UE games, I hope the UNREAL series will come one day :)Arkham Knight uses the same engine as the previous games in the series.

There's a chance if they will use Vulkan (don't really believe in AAA Vulkan ports until Q2/16) and if they don't rely too much on the crappy Win port.

I don't blame AMD, because I couldn't care less for Blobs. I run Linux not because of the money, but because of it's freedom. I know a lot of people see this differently, but I do (not) care.
As the long-term-strategy with AMD is to rely on the same base (which is open source), I hope that Feral steps up and starts to support AMD.
If not, well, I cannot recommend nor support Feral, nor companies like nvidia. In fact I'd say that currently nvidia is far more monopolistic and cancerous than Microsoft.
So if a certain game does not run on Linux and AMD, but it runs on Windows and AMD, I'd rather support the later combination than Linux and nvidia. (While in reality I will most likely just skip the game then)

Correct! Arkham Knight does not use UE4!

I guess i might be missing something, haven't followed review videos etc. but this "hype" around Batman: Arkham Knight...
Is this game in a spotlight because of its amazing graphics? Or because it's Batman? Or because it's a truly fantastic game with a great story? I find for example KOTOR as such.

Both Arkham Asylum and Arkham City were GOTY and overall great games (though the second one is far superior IMO). Arkham Knight is the conclusion of the story and many people were expecting it anxiously. Problem is the company that ported it to PC completely dropped the ball and now after 4 months of fixing it still performs horrible.
