Insurgency FPS Now Officially Available On Linux

I'm a bit behind due to all the fun tonight, but Insurgency is now fully available on Linux with a big update. It's also available dirt cheap in the latest Humble Bundle offering.

I seriously can't wait to pump a ton of hours into it, has some serious fun on the beta the other night. The community so far seems quite nice and helpful, which is a change!

The new update which includes official SteamOS/Linux support is named the "Conquer Update". It includes new weapons, maps, new game modes and a ton more. Pretty big update really, and I hope it keeps the game alive for all of us.

About the game
Take to the streets for intense close quarters combat, where a team's survival depends upon securing crucial strongholds and destroying enemy supply in this multiplayer and cooperative Source Engine based experience. The follow-up game to the award-winning Source mod, Insurgency is highly competitive and unforgivingly lethal, striking a balance between one-life gameplay and prolonged action.

It's addictive, specially if you play the coops and in a good funny team for the PvP.

was anybody else experiencing problems with a minimalistic WM? (I'm running DWM)
I had to refresh the graphics everytime I loaded a map / got flashed because the FPS would drop from ~130 to ~20.
Downloading the stable build now, hope it got fixed..

Looks nice, I got it to run for about half hour or so on solo mode. However it completely locked up on one of the equip screens. As in, my entire machine dead-locked. Couldn't SSH in, couldn't move mouse, no keyboard response etc. Had to force power off by holding power button (I hate doing that..) :-(

My computer didn't seem to like it either, didn't power on after force off when pressing power button haha. Had to flick the PSU switch off, wait for power to drain, then turn it back on in order for my computer to respond to its power button again.

Aside from that minor issue the game runs okay on my NV GTX 650 (Yes I know I need to upgrade...), temperatures were fine, below 50C for cpu, and ~45-50C for GPU so not a heat-related issue.

But overall seemed like a good game :-). I was doing quite bad though I had super delayed reactions to those target pop ups.. I haven't played FPS games in a really really long time... I'd have been dead in a real combat situation no doubt.

On the plus side, I did get alien isolation on high graphics settings running well at around 70-80FPS after a lot of graphics setting fine-tuning. Not bad considering it defaulted to "Very Low" settings.

Great game! It's exactly what I've wished for and very rewarding when playing together with a good team.

Exactly three Linux games in this Bundle: Euro Truck Sim 2 (have it already), Teslagrad, and Insurgency (I totally suck at FPS. How much do I suck? I haven't even been able to take down the very first boss in Borderlands 2, that's how much :'( ). It's over to the Humble Store; much as I love getting games for charity, why buy 8 of 11 games for Windows? Hmmm, not much there, either... .

Feh.

The 750ti, which draws all its power from the PCI-E slot, is now around $120, which is probably less than you paid for the 650. There's also the 950, which is in the $150 sweet spot, and is the new nVidia entry-level card. It got a good and extensive review in Maximum PC, comparing it directly to the 650:http://www.maximumpc.com/nvidia-geforce-gtx-950-review/. Note that the 950 is pretty darn close to the 960, which I have.

Yes, I know that money is probably tight for you, but it's something to keep in mind.

I put it on my steam wishlist in case there was a sale. 85% off this weekend so picked it up and can't stop playing it. First Linux game that respects my 120hz monitor. Most cut the frame rate to 60 or less with vsync turned on. I can't stand screen tearing! Plays extremely smooth and the sound effects really draw you into the experience. Thanks for this article and all of GOL!
