The developer emailed in to let us know that the game is now available for Linux gamers on Steam, and Samsai took a look at it in the last Friday livestream. It looked liked fun, and the reviews are positive! It's currently in Early Access, so it will still be early days, and it will feature bugs.
The developer shared this with us:
QuoteScraps now has deathmatch-style combat over singleplayer, LAN or Internet play. There are a few "official" servers but anyone can host their own as well - and the demo can be used to join LAN games so not everyone has to own the full version to play on LAN. Internet multiplayer has been a bit quiet recently, but there's more content coming in the future including a major new single-player mode.
About the game
Scraps: Modular Vehicle Combat is a vehicle combat game where you build your vehicle from parts, and where success lies just as much in designing a well-crafted vehicle as in your combat skills. Design from the chassis up, then pit your creation against humans or AI in a combat arena. When you take out other players, scavenge from their wreckage to repair or upgrade your own vehicle in-game.
Check out Scraps: Modular Vehicle Combat on Steam.
If you try it out, come back and let us know what you think about it!

Scraps...is actually very good fun! Very satisfying to climb the XP ladder and get access to lasers and plasma cannons. Really quite intense to charge across the plains, all 16 (!) lasers focused at a single point, searing and burning off the opponent conventional cannon before too many of the shells hits your own vehicle.
There's also quite an element of strategy in finding the best composition for the vehicle. Fast and nimble? Forward facing of turrets or auto-cannons distributed across the hull to increase the difficulty of hitting a single one of them.
It's still in early development but the base mechanic is very solid. I'm hoping for further improvement to the landscape, more game modes, more elements to play with. Would be thrilled to have some slightly more wacky stuff and elements thrown in, jet boosters to jump away from combat, invisibility, custom block modding, hovercraft, water?
I'm very much looking forward to play this on LAN with my sons once I've set up another spare computer.

If possible, please always mention early access titles in the article title or early in the description. There are quite a few people who avoid any early access games and it's a bit frustrating to learn about it only after reading the whole article and then looking at the steam page. Thank you!

It's actually in the tags on the homepage, and in articles themselves. However, this is a repeating request as people seem to miss it, so I have given the Early Access tag a unique colour to make it stand out as I agree it's one of the more important ones to highlight.

The Twisted Metal ist mechanics look fun.
The lack of textures isn't my cup of tea. Feels intended for ages 8 - 14.
$15? I think I'll wait for something else that fulfills my driving derby style destruction fetish.
Until then Robocraft is free and allows players to build death vehicles with guns so It's not really a untapped offering as there are contenders in the arena for my playtime.

I haven't noticed the tag before, now it's better visible, thank you. I wonder, could this particular tag be displayed in the article headline (at the end) as well? When coming from an RSS reader, I skip the front page, so the first time I see the tag is at the end of the article.

Quoting: ripperI've given tags their own line in the RSS content right above the main text, as they weren't shown at all before. Hopefully that helps, I don't wish to put it into titles though. Anyway, this is all a bit too offtopic, any other suggestions add them to the forum :)Quoting: liamdaweIt's actually in the tags on the homepage, and in articles themselves. Yes. I do not know what's intended but yea, it certainly appeals to the kids.
Much fun has been had here at home tweaking the setup and fighting on LAN. Game of the month here :)
