It's no small secret that I think Distance is bloody fantastic, and now even more so with the latest update. It performs as beautifully as ever, and I have a blast playing it every time I load it up. Distance now uses Unity 5, so it comes with all the general improvements that brings with it.

I've teasted out the Cockpit view, and wow. It makes an already quite challenging game even more interesting to play. It doesn't sound all that fancy, as most other car racers have a view inside the car, but for a game as fast paced as this it's quite terrifying at times!

At a glance this update gives us:
- Better overall performance
- Faster level loading
- VR integration ("experimental-vr" branch, info below)
- Added Cockpit view
- UI revamp (with mouse support)
- Challenge and Soccer mode improvements
- Improved car colour customization
- Improved player names in multiplayer
- New physics engine
- New level editor assets
- More bug fixes

Find Distance on Steam, but remember it's still in Early Access with the full release due next year. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I really need to pick this up soon. Maybe after I finish Dirt Showdown.

I'm STARVED for a racing game, but I'm still going to hold off until this gets fully released. It does look good, though. I'm really happy they put in a cockpit view, that's always my preferred view in racing games.

this is one of the games I pre-ordered. I know there is a high stance here against pre-ordering but let me explain:
First of all: when distance hit kickstarter I already knew these guys from nitronic-rush which was a school assignment of them so they already have proven themselves that they can make great games!
secondly: this wasn't a pre-order from some big company, it was from a few students who just graduated, I pre-ordered the game for $15,- but I actually wanted to say: Make something great, please follow your dream!
In the end I didn't regret it at all, this is how pre-ordering culture should develop! It should only be there to support new game developers and get them started!

Honestly, all I ever do in this game anymore is trackmorgify. I can't get enough of it - typing in random things to generate custom tracks.

As far as performance goes, I do notice some improvements, although still not quite at Windows-level frames per second.

You should wait until the game goes out of Early Access, because last time I tried to play this game with a friend it wasn't a good experience at all and as my experience taught me, good reviews during Early Access doesn't equal to a good game at release.
