The developers emailed in to let us know they need Linux testers, so if you feel like you can help please let them know.
As for the Linux version, they wrote a blog post on exactly why Linux is not going to be an afterthought. The developers even sent in a patch to Epic Game for something they found, now that's just awesome.
QuoteSome gamers/developers/publishers would ask why we’d go to all this trouble, after all Linux is a small subset of Steam users (less than 1% as of August 2015). The answer is that we aren’t in the business of limiting our game to a specific platform, and one of the reasons we chose UE4 was because it would allows us to deploy to multiple platforms. Sure, it creates more work for us but if even one Linux player enjoys Quasar then that work will be worth it.
Good lord, I need to buy these guys a beer.
QuoteWill I personally switch to Linux? I’ve grown up on Windows and have tried Linux a few times and it just never felt right but for some people its their operating system of choice and for those people we want to ensure that if they want to play Quasar they can.
The exact kind of honest I really appreciate, everyone has their preference, but they are making sure our preferred operating system is still able to play their game.
Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:

That's a refreshing developer attitude. They just won themselves a sale (assuming the testing goes well).

Looks to be multiplayer only, for the moment.

Hi there,
I don't want to be nit-picking, but this isn't a bullet hell shooter. Bullet hell is a specific genre, not all shooters with a lot of bullets are bullet hell shooters ;)
Usually bullet heel means:
- A lot of bullets (obvious)
- A very small hitbox of your ship/character
- The game is scrollig (usually vertically, but it could also be horizontally)
- Usually you can't collide with the terrain
Jamestown would be an example for a bullet hell shooter (great game btw.).

One of the developers here!
Thanks for the kind words. I can't convey through words just how seriously we're taking Linux development, only through actions. Quasar is built in UE4 and we've contributed a Linux fix to the engine that took us quite a number of hours to track down.
At least one of us every time we test is playing on a SteamOS machine just to ensure that the game plays smoothly on a Linux based operating system, but given the number of options it would be very difficult to cover all of them.
We're working on hitting alpha in the next few weeks once we've solidified our newest game mode, and once we're happy with it we'll be sending out Steam codes. Can't wait to see you all in the game!
@chuzzle: We'll very likely be adding some AI training modes as well as splitscreen play. We're 100% focused on multiplayer first and foremost, and with no plans for a single player mode with story.

Signed up! Seems to be nice developers and they are really focused on their costumers needs.
I didn't notice that it was multiplayer only, but at least you can't blame the AI for not being challenging enough.

This is gold, shows you're dead-serious about taking Linux serious. The game doesn't really seem to be my thing, though...

@wolfyrion: Thanks for that! We had run into an issue with our forums that required a small rollback and didn't realize that some of our plugins had been removed. If you try again you should receive an email!

@overlawled I would really love to test it, but I unfortunately can't be sure I would have the opportunity this week end. Do you plan any wide open alpha/beta ? I don't want to steal the slot of someone who would be able to do it.
