Valve Is Trolling Us With A New Half-Life 3 Leak

By -
Valve look like they will become the ultimate trolls with a new leak. It looks like they included some files directly related to Half-Life 3 in a recent Dota 2 update.

Thanks to SteamDB as usual for noticing such things.

They found these files included in Dota 2:
hl3.txt
ai_basenpc.txt
rpg.txt

I'm not entirely sure how you could accidentally include them, so I'm sure it's to either get people hyped up in some way, or a big troll attempt.

The website Valve Time took a more in depth look at the files, you should check it out. They say this at the end which sums it up nicely:
QuoteSo, it’s important to realize that there’s absolutely no information as to exactly when or where these definitions come from. Meaning some or all definitions could be years old, used in some early iterations of projects that may or may not have died internally at Valve. Or, these are precisely what Valve is using, today, in some future title. Stay tuned as always...

I still haven't finished Half-Life 2, and only finished Half-Life 1 in the last few years, as personally I don't find them to actually be as amazing as others think. I am however interested to see what they can do with a new game in the series.

They have Source 2 working pretty well now, Steam Machines are on the way, and the know it will probably sell really well, so I wonder if it will become "the real thing".

What do you think about it? Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I don't think this is an mishap since its so easy to filter for "hl3":
eg: grep -r "hl3" .goes even deeper.

Quoting: liamdaweI still haven't finished Half-Life 2,
WTF, Half-Life 2 is one of the most sold PC titles ever and its metascore of 96/100 is just incredible.

Yeah, yeah I know. Every time I pick it up I'm just not hooked by it for some reason, it's odd. I should probably dedicate some time to actually finishing it

Man, I hope to hell that it becomes a Linux exclusive. That would seriously get a lot of knickers in twists.

You can give up that hope. Valve doesn't do exclusives. They've stated specifically when asked about Steamboxes that they don't plan to ever have a Steambox exclusive, they want their games on all supported platforms.

Which is a reason I respect them, exclusives are the devil.

Linux is all about freedom. So I don't think that making a real exclusive would be a good thing for anyone.

But if we start to fantasize: what if HL3 would be a SteamOS exclusive FOR A MONTH, then it would be available on the other platforms? :D

They deserve our respect but exclusivity makes the money. Who would ever buy a Xbox if Halo wasn't Xbox only (*some were released years after for Win), me not. (Own Xbox 360 with Halo 4 but no other game)

+1 for that.
They have invested millions in Steam OS, plus a big part of their reputation. If they want to be sure that it is a success they have to provide a big exclusive.
Besides, as long as windows is around we are going to have problems.

HL3 exclusive to SteamOS, even for a short period of time would be counter-productive. Cutting 99% of the user base to push a new "plateform" would be very very poorly received. Look like anything turns into a shitstorm on the internet. That would leave to millions of messages on forums or social networks calling to boycott Steam and SteamOS. Look how the exclusivity of the last Tomb Raider has only gave bad buzz toward Microsoft.

I can hardly imagine a Windows user trying SteamOS just to play HL3, knowing that it would be released at some point for Windows. It would just make him more hostile toward SteamOS.

Valve can only push SteamOS by making more user friendly than Windows, not by using exclusives.

I'm not sure it would be that interesting of a deal if the developer (Valve) got a lot of money from the SteamOS publisher (Valve) for exclusivity.
