Not the news I expected to hit my inbox this week. Fishing Planet an online fishing game aimed at realism is heading to Linux.

I found an interesting video on it, and it looks okay:

The developer confirmed it's coming on their Steam forum:
QuoteNext week we will start Linux tests. Along with a SteamOS tests.

I couldn't even imagine that there was such a game :)

I enjoy fishing in real life: Such a game is fish-friendly and saves you a lot of travel costs, not to mention that you wont drown and can have real toilet breaks.

But I still doubt that game is perfect for me, at least till they release the "Filleting and pan frying fish" DLC.

I enjoy a good fishing game, and it's fantastic to see this one coming to Linux. (Now if only we could get some decent basketball and football games!)

Football manager is on Linux... Don't know if you meant ones where you actually play as the players though.

This seems like a great way to chill out, although the multiplayer stuff (if forced) is disappointing. I'd be happy just collecting trophy fish and whatever by myself. Had a ton of harmless fun playing Fishing Resort with my nephew on his Wii. :)

Looks pretty! The devs were probably enjoying fishing in WoW too, huh? :)

I'm down to give this a try. Sometimes, I just want to play a game that's chill, a man can only swing swords and shoot aliens for so long before he wants to take a break and do something more relaxed.

Last time I had a fishing game that I enjoyed on the PC was Trophy Bass 2 by Sierra.

I love that these niche games exist, even though I don't personally play any of them. They are exotic little flowers in the gaming flora.

Crack open a cold one and 'big game' hunt!
