Magicka 2 Officially Released For SteamOS & Linux

tagline-image
After a short beta period Magicka 2 is now officially available for the roll out of Steam Machines, and for those of us on normal Linux desktops too of course. They accidentally pushed it out earlier, removed it again and now it's officially out.

I wonder how many "now on Linux" posts I'm going to be doing today, a few I hope!

I tested it out on the beta briefly and the performance was really quite good, and their communication on the forum has been great. I'm still impressed that the developers added in specific graphical settings you can adjust to help the performance on AMD GPU's, that's really great to see.

I will most likely arrange some games across this week online to celebrate, and will livestream some of them.

About the game (Official)
The world’s most irreverent co-op action adventure returns! In the next chapter of Magicka, players ascend from the ruins of Aldrheim to experience a Midgård almost wiped free of Wizards after the Wizard Wars, with the few that do remain having either gone mad or extremely hostile toward all others.

To rid the world of evil, again, up to four Wizards, and their guide Vlad, will traverse Midgård armed with the next iteration of the famous Magicka dynamic spellcasting system, as players reprise their roles as the most overpowered, unpredictably funny Wizards ever known to fantasy!

Seriously, I'm starved for a racing game.

I hope you are as well, but currently the Steam landing page is curiosly absent of any big fanfare. Im hoping that is because of the time difference and when the USA comes online steam will be loud and proud about SteamOS's release today. I will be severely dissappointed if today passes as if it is any other day for valve.

The most disappointing thing is that knowing valve it may as well pass like nothing happened :(

It's like 7:26am where Valve is, patience.

You're off by 3 hours, Valve is located on the west coast. It's 7:35 AM where I am (Hartford, Connecticut on the east coast) and 4:35 AM where Valve is (Bellevue, Washington on the west coast).

Games used to always release on Steam at 10 AM Valve time, though that's changed recently and I think developers/publishers can now release games at a time of their choosing. Still, I'd expect the bulk of the action to happen 5 1/2 hours from now.

I'd guess they'd take about the same time as with the sales, so like 18 or 19 'o clock for Middle Europe.
And I expect a sale! :)

Can confirm, Bellevue, WA, is located on GMT-8, so some 8-9 hours behind Western Europe.

Usually Valve update it's offerings, during Steam sales, at 1PM, where Valve is. I suspect it will be the same, today. They used the same pattern when SteamOS, the Steam Machines and the Steam Controller were first announced, 2 years ago.

Quite curious what today will have in store myself, but does anyone have anything to say about Magicka 2?
It looks interesting, although I'm usually a single-player kind of guy. I wonder how varied/deep the gameplay will be, anyone gave it a shot yet?

Ah my bad with the time, I had the area slightly wrong heh the US is confusing with lots of timezones.

I'm checking steamdb every hour: everything seems strangely calm...

The reviews look quite mixed, mostly due to negative comparisons with the predecessor...

Well the predecessor isn't on Linux, so the comparison is (partially) moot to me.

I might have been wrong too... Didn't have the right location for Valve:

Bellevue Washington is on Pacific Time. I'm on eastern time. Right now, it's 5h33 in Bellevue and 8h33 eastern time. The "sales update" happens at 1h00 PM, eastern time so it must be 10h00am in Bellevue, WA. What we need to know it's that we are 4h27 till next update.

Sorry for the confusion.

Probably the game releases will come hand in hand with the midweek madness. Probably (hopefully) a new steamOS themed sale . As it begins at 10 PST theres 4:26 hrs to wait. Or till 18:00 GMT (19:00 german/CET )

I imagine any secret release won't push anything that SteamDB will see until right up before the launch, as to not leak anything.

That said, we still don't know if any big surprises are due.

While you all are worrying about other releases, my big question is: How do I transfer my beta saves in Magicka 2? I found the save location for the beta, but it must be different for the final release.
coryrj19951 Nov 10, 2015
The performance is great for me. Near constant 60 FPS on my R9 270x.
Hopefully this is one of many new releases today ^_^

Saints Row IV has been getting several updates since yesterday morning. Medieval War II also had one yesterday and today. I got excited, but then I saw that Divinity: OS also had updates, so now I'm not so sure this means anything... :P
