War Thunder is a pretty popular MMO that's for sure, and it had a lot of people excited when it came to Linux. It has recently been updated with some big new stuff.

New stuff:
- New water rendering
- Introduction of Physically Based Rendering (PBR)
- Support for 64-bit version of the client;
- New destructible environment
- Lots of new vehicles
- New locations and missions

I haven't had a chance to test it myself, but apparently the launcher can also be controlled by gamepad now too. Sounds like a pretty beefy update that's for sure.

See the full announcement here.

Thanks for the info Henrique. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

That sounds great. My problem is that whenever I see "MMO" abbreviation I know that this game is not for me. I just play when I can and as long as I can (usually with frequent breaks) so MMO games are just not for me.
Anyway, I'm sure that there are a lot of people that will play this title because it looks very nice.

Personally. I'm just not usually a fan of F2P games, and this was no different. It also has a confusing interface.

its amazing game. its not really MMO though.. 12vs12 players is not MMO imo :D but whatever.. game looks great and plays nice.. ofc if you play free then you have to grind a lot to get into later tiers of planes and tanks, but there seems to be no pay to win to me at least..yes you can buy some tanks with real money but you cant buy from upper tiers if you dont have required research trees unlocked.

great news anyway.. havent had time to play lately, will be checking out as soon as i can

I didn't notice any changes after patch, maybe because I can't play WT:Ground Forces on max settings. Funny thing: after patch release many of players (including me :)) shoot at random buildings - not one of it was destructible. I've been little disappointed but i haven't notice any fps drop so it's plus. People on WT forum complains - they have massive fps drops after 1.53. Next funny thing: it seems that efficiency drops only with DX not OpenGL... Am I malignant? Not at all... maybe a little :D

You both guys (liam, wojtek) should give a try WT. Its a great game, one of the best on Linux. Airplanes are quite funny (far better than "Wold Of Warplanes" by Wargaming) - U can play pure arcade battles or some kind of simulation battles (in this case joystick is recommended). Tank battles are quite difficult when compared to famous "World Of Tanks", but much more realistic: U just can feel 50 tons of steel U have to drive. However if U decide to play few battles only - U probably won't have much fun from game. In my case it was simple scenario: drive forward -> kaboom from nowhere -> my tank is destroyed :D. After few battles I started to play much careful and slowly gameplay becomes better and better. Of course I'm still not "pro player", but game gives me satisfaction and fun: deep ride on T34 or M-24 Chaffee and attack enemy from behind - wonderful :D.
Interface is really confusing from beginning, but after some time it becomes clearer.

As always I'm sorry for my imperfect language.

The destructible buildings feature is only functional on Berlin map right now, and I think partially on the two new maps.

I guess one can play with linux client against windows clients, or is it linux -> linux only?
Maybe I should give this a try someday, after I stopped WoT a while ago (Windows Game loader needed and Gold munition needed in Top Tiers to be really competitive, got annoying after all).

It's Windows/Linux/Mac and even PS4 on a single set of shared servers.

Hmm, ok, so I placed it on my try-someday list...

The air-fights were okayish.

But Tank Battles? I love tank Battles!

Anyone remember Battle Tankx from N64 - that game was so awesome, if their Tank Play is good it could be a hook, its so hard to find a good Tank games these days.

If you love arcarde Tank battles you can play WT, but if you want a real WW II Tank Battle Simulation you can play Red Orchestra Ostfront and his Mods.

Best game here, it's keeping me from gaming on Windows.

Actually you can get away with really short sessions. Recently I have hardly been playing more than an hour a day, and I usually spread it out over 2 or 3 sessions. An average arcade air battle lasts 10 to 15 minutes.

Very good game!

I just can't get into it, I've tried and tried again after the update. It runs great even on AMD, looks good @1440p on movie but, The UI and imbalance is insane !!!!!
