Rocket League Linux Port Is Almost Ready

By -
The Rocket League developers recently did a reddit "ask me anything" and in it they stated the Linux port was almost ready.

This is really great news, as people seem to be falling over themselves playing this game. Checking on it today the peak player count was "26,428", so it looks like it will still be just as popular when we get it.

IGN did a little take on it:

The reddit answer was short and sweet:
QuoteThis is ALMOST ready. I don't have an exact date but it will be very soon.

About the game
Soccer meets driving once again in the long-awaited, physics-based sequel to the beloved arena classic, Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars!

A futuristic Sports-Action game, Rocket League, equips players with booster-rigged vehicles that can be crashed into balls for incredible goals or epic saves across multiple, highly-detailed arenas. Using an advanced physics system to simulate realistic interactions, Rocket League relies on mass and momentum to give players a complete sense of intuitive control in this unbelievable, high-octane re-imagining of association football.

Looks like the perfect game for some local co-op Steam Machine fun!

Quoting: ShaoluYet another reminder to me of how cool it would be if Super Tux Kart was available on Steam. It has a soccer match feature that has very similar gameplay to this. If STK was available on Steam, I would purchase a license just to support the project again (already donated) and get access to Steam features for the game.

My understanding of GPL is that anyone can re-distribute software even for money as long as the source remains available - So if the all the code and graphics are GPL / CC then I sometimes let my mind think about that.

I mean it would be cool to see someone release on steam for like $3-$5, but I'm sure the origin crew would be annoyed it was done without their direct input.

I seriously was waiting to get a Steam Controller until I played my brother's but this Linux Port could easily tip the iceberg for me as I really am looking intently for co-op games for my big screen.

Yes, I've read that both platforms will be supported by the end of the year.

Can't play with 'em - just Linux here.

I call on tenretnI in all her pasta goodness to touch the all powerful ones that control resources for the Linux conversion of Rocket League. May all their wants and wishes be granted.
