It's a shame that it hasn't been given the best reviews, as apparently the game is too short. I haven't played it myself, personally the Trine games don't interest me all that much, but Trine 3 to me looks like the one that might actually interest me properly with the new 3D style to it.
About the game
Experience a fairytale world of breathtaking sceneries and face a myriad of physics-based puzzles, wonderful contraptions, dangerous foes and enchanting creatures.
Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power is a platforming game of action, puzzles and adventure, and the sequel to the award winning Trine and Trine 2. Reunite with the familiar heroes - Pontius the Knight, Amadeus the Wizard and Zoya the Thief in an all-new adventure, now for the first time in full 3D!
Playable in single-player or in co-up with up to three players, both locally or online.
Find Trine 3 on GOG, Steam and Humble Store.

Bought it and I am enjoying it. Looks like some people are mad that it is very different from the first ones.
The port have some problems. Joypad support have to be manually activated inside the game. The full screen mode is still broken from the beta.
Their engine did not work very well with radeonsi driver. A R9 290 have almost the same performance as a A8 APU. Changing settings like v-sync and effects didn't change performance at all. The fps is constantly bellow 30. Another game programmed to work only with the Nvidia version of OpenGL...

A few months ago, I bought Trine 1 and 2, in hopes to co-op with my girlfriend. Wanting to have them both finished before this release, I started ahead on part 2. Things didn't quite turn out that way, because of two reasons:
1. She broke up with me.
2. I bought Victor Vran.
Will surely end up finishing parts 1 and 2 and buying 3 though. Just hope they keep adding content...

This is on a 7850HD, never really tried the IGP. This is enough for me, but surely not the way things should be.

Same. It helps that I haven't started playing 2 yet, although I loved 1.

I have a Fury X and FX8350 and NO problems whatsoever. Of course this is "high-end" - from AMD - , but I am able to play the game with a constant 60fps on everything maxed out (1920x1200). When playing Trine, it never passed my mind that this game was bad optimized in any way. I did have v-sync on, so I am no sure if the 60fps was the max or if it was the v-sync cap.

Trine 1 (or 2, can't remember), have a fps cap that you can turn off via a config file.

Trine 2 at the very least was designed to be played at 30 FPS.
While I have never had the highest of hopes for this one, I have picked it up from Humble Store seeing as how it is currently on sale and I really do owe Frozenbyte the benefit of the doubt.

I'm glad it finally made it over to Linux. It will be on my wishlist soon. I've never loved the Trine series but always found them to be decent and enjoyable.
