Helmets at the ready, as GRID Autosport will be screeching onto our favourite SteamOS & Linux platform this December.

Good news: It supports Intel, AMD and Nvidia graphics! Requires Nvidia 600 series, AMD 6000 series, Intel Iris Pro or better.
After emailing Feral Interactive as their mini-site and newsletter stated different requirements, they have edited their mini-site to only list Nvidia once again.

It will also support cross-platform multiplayer, so that's very good news. I can't wait to thrash some Mac gamers!

GRID Autosport is on track for Dec 10 on Mac & Linux, with x-platform multiplayer! Minisite: https://t.co/dfJfOwbsGf pic.twitter.com/BxyNY45hmB

It's only a week away, and it's much sooner than I expected it to be released which has me rather happy!

I will more than likely do a special livestream on the release day Thursday the 10th of December to celebrate. Be sure to follow my personal livestreaming page in Twitch.

As usual, I urge you not to buy it until the official release to be sure our porting friends get the money they deserve for bringing another wonderful game to our small platform.

About the game
It’s all about the teams, the rivals and the race in an intense new world of professional motorsport. Racing alongside a teammate, you must overcome key rivals and satisfy team sponsors in ferocious races where every pass and position counts.

In a huge career, specialise in your favourite racing discipline or conquer them all feel the aggression of the pack in Touring Cars, manage tyre wear and race into the night in Endurance events, race Open-Wheel cars with precision, show car control in Tuner events and react on the fly in Street races.

Players will get behind the wheel of 80 highly desirable rides including front-wheel drive hot hatches, souped-up Muscle cars, lightweight open-wheelers and 1,000 horsepower hypercars, by manufacturers including Jaguar, McLaren, Pagani and Aston Martin. They’ll put these wonderful vehicles through their paces on 22 speed-friendly locations around the world, including purpose-built circuits such as Spa-Francorchamps, Brands Hatch and Yas Marina, and the exhilarating city street circuits of Barcelona and San Francisco.

I have updated our Release Calendar to reflect the release date too! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I did the "error" of buying it in the spring when it was first announced together with a big sale discount. Because it was feral, I was confident so I bought it but I discovered later that they probably wouldn't get paid for it.

Doh! I'll never do that again!

In fact it's the only game that I can't play, right now. Aside from Rocket League that I got with my Steam Controller, but I don't really care about this one.

Shut the F up and take my dineros.

might pick this up, I like hover cars and arcade racing this will be the closest thing to F-zero we get on SteamOS for a while

:P
Good news that a decent racing game arrives on Linux at last. Bad timing for me though. I was holding out for Project Cars to arrive on Linux but gave up waiting so just a week ago I got my daughter to get it for me on PS4 instead as an Xmas present.
Oh well, I'll look out for a future sale of this and for Project Cars to come to Linux and re-buy if need be.
Also, I'd be interested to see if this game works with a Dualshock 4 as I haven't invested in a Steam Controller yet and don't currently have a steering wheel. Using a controller for driving games isn't too bad and surely must be better than using keyboard and mouse.
By the way Victor Vran is superb with a Dualshock 4 (with mouse for inventory management), despite showing the x-box AB/XY icons

Lets hope that it will not need OpenGL 4.3 as minimal requirement, like the other recent Feral ports, so people using opensourse drivers can play it from day one.

Also, didn't Feral bought a bunch of AMD cards months ago, so they can better support then? Why are they sticking with Nvidia in the requirements?

http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=2015-holiday-gpus&num=1

Feral can't do anything to improve AMD's drivers. Hopefully "The Boss" doesn't mind me linking to another site, but those graphs say it all. The entire AMD lineup getting smoked by a 750 Ti in the majority of the tests.

----

On-topic, Hell YEEAH! Been waiting on a good racing sim and CARS is pretty much vaporware at this point.

Some people (or almost everybody) believe that the bad performance of Catalyst drivers are entirely AMD's fault, but I have seen some people that are studying OpenGL and they say that AMD does have good OpenGL drivers, IF your code actually meets the OpenGL specification to the letter. The code generated this way works good in the proprietary Nvidia driver too, but if your implementations is faulty, you have a better chance they can work (bad, but work) with the Nvidia driver, since it is more tolerant with bad code. So there you have your Linux port with half the Windows one performance.

So Feral cannot "fix" the AMD driver, but they can make their ports perform better outside the Nvidia drivers. Remember that the biggest vendor of GPUs are not Nvidia or AMD, is Intel, because today people buy more laptops than desktops. If you make your driver work with the opensource Intel driver, you will expand your market. If you only limit yourself to Nvidia, you are cutting sales by half in Linux, and it's already a small market.

At the moment it is available to buy in the Humble Codemasters Bundle!
Won't count as linux sale though?

Like I said in the article, don't buy before a port is out. Always follow that simple rule.

so daft question: if I buy the game but do not activate (ie hardcopy) until its out does that count as a linux version ?

Hi all - first post,

So - like a berk - I shelled out for the Humble Bundle before realising I already bought these shortly before I went Linux only. Therefore - Steam keys! :

Grid Showdown :

DGHBQ-HJB3Z-QRFZD - Game
7VGKN-R3TYN-H8IFA - Road & Track Car Pack
AG2WR-HRPYT-FAGQX - Season pass
YE6VG-G242K-0KLQZ - Drag pack (I'm not sure what this involves)

And here's Dirt Showdown too :

dgorst some of those are DLC -- extra cars and tracks , there should be no porting (or not much) in those (I think)

If you mean a "hardcopy" that you purchased in a shop, that will not count for Linux at all. Feral confirmed this before.

Still problems on AMD cards ?

Even if it did, that method already happened on Linux and IMO failed. See ID / Loki games. It's annoying to patch the "windows" version just to setup a Linux version.

Fair enough - I already have them though

What awful timing for me. I wait all this time for a legit racing game on Linux and when it does finally come out I'll already be playing Xenoblade Chronicles X and Fast Racing Neo on my Wii U. Had this come out a month ago, even a week ago, I'd have bought it instantly, but by Dec 10th I'll have way too much on my plate. Oh well, I'll get this sometime next year when it's 75% off.

#FirstWorldProblems

I was waiting for you to pop up on the comments page, since you complained multiple times about this one ;)

Anyway, This looks like a great game, and I might consider upgrading my HumbleBundle participation.

Just to note that the requirements will list what Feral support. It may well work on the "original" specs, but probably not to a degree that they're comfortable with officially contractually supporting.

FTFY

I hated GRID 1 because of the realistic controls, maybe if it looks fun in the Live Stream I'd like it. I want something like Twisted Metal or Burnout Paradise - Dirt Showdown quenches most of that style but I wish it was open world ;(

that's verry much possible, might also explain why the unigine benchmark shows much better performance on amd compared to the tested games, since it's a benchmark it has to follow the specifications to the letter to form unbiased performance statistics.
