Good news you maniacs, Hatred the weirdly controversial game is now in Beta for Linux. You need a password, but we have the scoop for you.
QuoteIf you are owner of Hatred you can try it now, but you'll need to switch Hatred branches on the Steam:
1) Click on Hatred in the Steam games library
2) Select properties
3) Go to Betas, paste there "beat7624Hatred1"
4) Click CHECK CODE
5) Then at "Select the beta you would like to opt into" combobox select "beta build for testers"
6) Click CLOSE and restart Steam
But be aware, you may lose game progress or something, this version may contain countless issues from crashes to performance drops, yep it is in beta stage and I'm working on linux version in my free time.
If you find issue, please post info about it here: http://forums.hatredgame.com/viewforum.php?f=10

About the game (Official)
Hatred fills your whole body. You’re sick and tired of humanity’s worthless existence. The only thing that matters is your gun and the pure Armageddon that you want to unleash.
You will go out for a hunt, and you will clear the New York outskirts of all humans with cold blood. You will shoot, you will hurt, you will kill, and you will die. There are no rules, there is no compassion, no mercy, no point in going back. You are the lord of life and death now - and you have full control over the lives of worthless human scum.
You will also run, you will need to think, you will need to hide and fight back when armed forces come to take you down. You will have no mercy for them, because they dare to stand in your way.
Only brutality and destruction can cleanse this land. Only a killing spree will make you die spectacularly and go to hell.
Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
Gameplay is pretty boring.. destruction is nice like exactly 10 minutes and then its all boring.
A.I. seems to be bad. they sometimes stand next to you without doing anything. they get stuck in the doors and group up with others getting stuck somewhere in the corners.
black and white look with some colors like police sirens and fire are nice touch though.
driving with a car is utterly sluggish, it turns so fast and due the camera perspective its hard to master.
so what you do in this game? you just kill, kill and kill and then listen to some weird/boring monologue from the antagonist. basically he hates the world and blabla wants to kill everybody.. and you just do it..thats it
so all in all.. i think leaving the controversy aside, its a pretty boring game - i wouldnt recommend it with that price tag.
maybe 75% off is worth.
about performance.. it was 20-40fps only (no matter if medium or ultra settings) . enabled GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATIONS and the perf doubled.. 40-60... pretty good

As this is not available to buy on steam from Germany, see here (shop cooperates with the steam group "for UNCUT!"): https://de.gamesplanet.com/game/hatred-steam-key--2832-1
Although you shouldn't buy it until the Linux version is release officially...

I have it, very nice and relaxing game. I can trully recommend it. Also works fine even on low end AMD GPU with Crimson drivder (Catalyst 15.9 - freeze game).
So if you like game like Postal, you can buy it, worth.

I notice a huge trend with these XCOM camera style FPS games, is this really a thing people love or is it a fad?
I like my old school FPS made in the image of Golden Eye 64, which reminds me when will Golden Eye Source land? Ha I can't wait but I think they're dead in the water :( Black Mesa Linux version too :(

I think the term you're looking for is bird's-eye-view. I don't think anyone necessarily loves or hates it, it is just easier to make a game in that fashion.

They can expect a purchase from me as soon as it is out of beta. I was hoping to get a DRM free version and a Linux version but to their credit they tried. The Desura version is DRM free but with Desura going bankrupt they may not get the proceeds from that. Other DRM free outlets have refused to sell the game. Really sad since Postal is sold on these outlets and is similar.

Quoting: ElectricPrismI notice a huge trend with these XCOM camera style FPS games, is this really a thing people love or is it a fad? It's not a new trend. Games have had this camera view since the beginning of games, practically. Q*bert, Marble Madness, The Immortal, MechWarrior 3050, Paperboy, just to name a few off the top of my head. Sure, those are different styles of games, not necessarily shooters, but the point is, there's nothing new here. Even the original Postal is pretty old now, and it's the same way. But none of these are FPS games, and neither is Hatred. By definition, an FPS is a shooter with a first-person camera view. If it's not first-person, it's not an FPS.

Can we please not brand this game as controversial? I don't think we should be sending the developers the hint that we're (in any way related) to feminists.
