Pinch, punch, first of the month! As the saying goes...time for our latest monthly survey to complete!
It will be open for ~2 weeks, as we noted submissions to it dramatically drop off after that amount of time, so we will keep it to around that time.
As usual, you fill it in from what you did in the previous month. So, this survey is December's survey, but you fill it in from your activity in November.
Find the new survey here.
You can see November's results here.

Maybe add Antergos to Arch-based.
I enjoyed the questionair the other month about Graphics Card users interested in AMD / NVidia / Intel hopping, and who was content.
(Edit - not a Antergos user actually but Arch user)

I appreciate everyone wants to see their particular distro listed everywhere, but we want to keep the bracket lists short enough so people get which one to tick and nothing more :)

I guess most users of Arch-based distros know that they are. More so perhaps than some users of Debian-based stuff. ;)

I bought 2 Steam Controllers (one that I've been enjoying a lot and a second one that I'll be putting under the Christmas tree together with some Local co-op games)
I'm planning to buy a SteamBox, but I'm not decided yet on which one. I'm also not home very often, so it would mainly be a console for my not so tech-savy family. We currently only have two computers at home (for 4 people) so I think one gaming-oriented one would be a good idea. But we're thinking of buying a laptop as well and that has a higher priority because it's not just for games. The Alienware, ZOTAC and Syber machines are the ones I've been looking at.
I'm disappointed with the Alienware GPU not being replaceable and I haven't seen the ZOTAC prices yet. Although the Syber isn't as aestetically pleasing as the other two, I'm most likely atm to go with a Syber.

If you didn't yet buy Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime - do it! Have fun! :)

I want to buy a high end steam machine so it counts as a linux sale, but i want that gpu in my main computer... and the low/medium gpu from my main computer on my steam machine.
Which steam machine allows me to do that?
Also, which ship to europe? most i have seen so far are US only, arent they?

Since many people buy no or only 1 game per month, would it make sense to change the retailer question to cover 2 or 3 months? That would still track changes over time, but would be less hit-or-miss for people who don't buy as many games.

Scan are in Europe: http://www.scan.co.uk/3xs/custom/gaming/steam-machines
Not sure how replaceable their graphics cards are.

That should all average out over the hundreds of people taking the survey anyway - if there are 60 people who buy a game every three months then there will be approximately 20 every month who bought 1 game and 40 every month who bought no games. If it's kept at a single month then we should also get to see if there are any big spikes in the single purchase a month figures when a big game gets released.

I choose "Desktop" mostly because I felt uncertain what "SofaPC/ConsolePC" refers to. It might have been explained in a previous poll that I missed.
However, technically both PC:s I use for gaming I use from a couch, sofa or lying down on the bed while gaming. I haven't actually sat down in front of a desk while pc-gaming since....maybe shortly after Y2K...something like that. So...not sure if I picked the right answer.

SofaPC/ConsolePC is exactly as the name might suggest, a unit under your tv gaming from your sofa.

I'm disappointed with the Alienware GPU not being replaceableYou're not the only one. This hardware looks super nice to me, but with GPU that you cannot replace I'm not going to spend so much money. I already have PS4 (which is super loud :( ) which has similar look and size, but if Alienware would have replaceable GPU (even for other GPU made by them) I would consider their Steam Machine. Now unfortunately it won't happen.

This month I answered "yes" for wine. But it was only for LackeyCCG...

That's what I use and I'd call it a desktop PC / sofa PC - please add that as an option too! ;-)
I use it roughly 50/50 from both positions, depending on the game I play.

If you're using it as a pc, but you have it connected to a TV as another monitor, it's not a sofa PC/Steam Machine. It's a PC with an additional monitor you happen to have somewhere else.

There is this one: Materiel.net
But it seems they ship only to France or Belgium.

Would be nice if the survey were tied to your account, so your earlier submitted answers were filled in automatically.

Not possible to do with Google Forms. Although that did give me an interesting idea on making a simple form built by me to do this instead of relying on google.

Note to self: start gaming under sourcemage. (Although, truth be told, installing sourcemage IS a video game.)

I'm pretty sure you would have a considerable drop in the number of participants if you require login to do the survey. Especially that you don't let us log in with open id, or our google account etc, many will be uncomfortable creating an account just for this site trusting that you can keep the information securely, or simply may not be bothered to remember that one account they are supposed to log in to once a month for the survey.
I strongly advise against requiring login for the surveys. In the very least, you should have an "anonymous" option.

Hey! What a surprise! It's kind of off-topic but I just logged into Steam and I got the Steam Survey for the first time in nearly a year. I might just be "lucky", but since it's the first survey after the official release of the Steam Machines, anyone else is in the same situation?
