For those waiting and hoping for Ori and the Blind Forest to come to Linux, your wait may be longer than expected.
Here's a direct quote from the developer:
thomasmahlerGuys, making ports isn't something we as the developers can decide upon - We signed Ori and the Blind Forest with Microsoft, they paid for the party, so they call the shots. For the time being, Ori will only be available on Microsoft-owned platforms, such as Xbox, Win10, PC.
Other Microsoft published games have made their way to Linux, so it's not out of the question. It depends what sort of publishing deal they signed, still a damn shame though.
About the game
The forest of Nibel is dying. After a powerful storm sets a series of devastating events in motion, an unlikely hero must journey to find his courage and confront a dark nemesis to save his home. “Ori and the Blind Forest” tells the tale of a young orphan destined for heroics, through a visually stunning action-platformer crafted by Moon Studios for PC. I personally think that this news is good ~ I came to linux for privacy. By attracting attention, and making more people use linux, we are making it more vulnerable from government wishes to implement backdoors.

The devs did fix the only bug the game had with Wine though, so it's perfectly playable on Linux.No thanks.

Ehhh, not sure why devs keep making these kind of deals, if they were lacking funds I can understand that but on the other side of the coin, there are alternative ways of obtaining funds such as kickstarter.
I'm sure they've had their reasons but looking at the bigger picture here they're leaving 3 platforms dry which could mean some good profit, especially from the PS4 side.
Indeed, any exclusivity is a stupid thing for developers if they have a good game. But may be they aren't confident if their game will sell well, and prefer one time cut from those who push exclusive limitations (MS) to long term profit from maximum possible platforms and distributors. If they aren't confident in their own creation - it's already a problem anyway.

I still cannot grasp how such deals can be legal. If it's obvious (as it is here) that the only problem is a deal which distorts the market (especially *for* the almost-monopoly) then it should be not allowed or invalid imho.

Far from being an expert at this stuff, I'd say that yes, they are near a monopoly in terms of os, but this deal does not create any major disruption of the games market, as can be seen from the loads of Linux games available.

Then I think FreeBSD might be a more appropriate choice for you. Also what are you doing at a Linux gaming site? Most games require you to share at least some personal data to at least buy them.

Hi guys, it's been a while since I didn't commented(forgot my login ><).
But when i saw this, i just had to.
I consider microsoft as the natural born ennemy of GNU/Linux, so it does not surprise me that their influence stole us a title.
What surprise me is that there is not more microsoft bashing here at GOL, and everywhere else where we like GNU/Linux.
Microsoft is the only significent reason why we can't play on our favorite system.
Honestly, what is the purpose of directx if it is not to set a monopoly ?
So much time focusing on personnal interest rather than developping better games ...
Those people at microsoft realy annoye me. I understand they have there reasons, but i don't understand those reasons(aka profit, profit and more profit).

Actually, we reported on it first, then Phoronix copied it with a clickbait title, and then someone on reddit posted a direct link with the title copied from Phoronix.
We were first, it's not click-bait since the developer directly blamed Microsoft.

Hey, you're aggressive. I only acknowledged some merit from the dev and informed those who really want to play this game that they can. But indeed I don't support the "zero compromises" attitude, it's an extremist position. The presence of full Linux support weighs heavily on my decision to buy a game or not, but depriving myself entirely from enjoying great games because their creators aren't good pupils... this, would be masochistic. ;)The devs did fix the only bug the game had with Wine though, so it's perfectly playable on Linux.
