Update: Turns out, Valve were helping with the port and a Valve rep has stated they are to blame:
QuoteHi guys,

I want to clarify that this is entirely on us, not Psyonix; we were really trying to help them get this out as close as possible to the Steam Controller launch but ran into a series of unforeseen problems along the road. We're working to get this resolved as fast as possible and are very sorry you didn't get to play it on Steam for Linux this year, as we were initially confident that this would be the case but unfortunately missed our target.

Thanks, Pierre-Loup, Valve

A big shame, but with all the other games I have right now I'm a little spoilt for choice anyway. Rocket League developers emailed our youtuber friend Jake to confirm it's not this year.

I know a lot of people have been waiting on it, and it makes it pretty annoying for anyone who was looking forward to it due to the free copy with certain Valve hardware. I didn't get it free with my hardware, but I can imagine it being annoying.

Honestly, I don't think we will see this for a few months. They have announced Rocket League is coming to Xbox One in February, so I honestly think they are putting most of their time into that port right now. I can't blame them, it will probably give them more income right now, but I do wish developers would stop promising one platform, then side-lining it for another. I will still pick it up when it's out though, as it looks like good fun.

I think it would have been nice of the developers to announce things like this, and not wait for people to email them.

About the game
Soccer meets driving once again in the long-awaited, physics-based sequel to the beloved arena classic, Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars!

A futuristic Sports-Action game, Rocket League, equips players with booster-rigged vehicles that can be crashed into balls for incredible goals or epic saves across multiple, highly-detailed arenas. Using an advanced physics system to simulate realistic interactions, Rocket League relies on mass and momentum to give players a complete sense of intuitive control in this unbelievable, high-octane re-imagining of association football. The guy got an email directly from the CEO? That's kinda cool.

Well, that's shame.. :/
I don't like booting into that thing Microsoft calls OS, but playing this game with friends is just worth it..
I just hope they won't eventually cancel it..

To me this sounds like they're really working on it, but met a problem. Sounds good IMHO.

Unity engine right? Wonder what kind of issues they are having. Maybe incompatible third party plugins?

It's UE3, apparently.

Doesn't matter to me... I got it as a freebie with my Steam Controller purchase.

Gabe can't be happy with this news. I wonder if they have some kind of contract with Valve that gave them a deadline.
SystemShock Dec 18, 2015
Yea, its no good that it won't come out this year. But like Dave says, it will come out !
So i think this news isn't to bad for us. :-)
Beamboom Dec 18, 2015
As long as it will come eventually, and don't pull a Witcher 3 on us.

If that's their actual reason for delaying it, I certainly can blame them. They've already made $50 million on this game. If greed is their only motivation, then they're not very honorable.

I'm hoping the reason is, like most good games that get delayed, they need more time to polish it rather than releasing something that is buggy and half-working.

For anyone unsure, I emailed them directly first, as I needed to know for upcoming videos I had planned.

Such a shame, I've played a ton of this on PS4 and LOVE IT. One of my favourite games of all time.

Yeah, quite disappointed really.

Well at least they respond when asked about it, unlike other with developers of other games that have gone silent (Witcher 3, Project CARS, etc).

Rocket league will still be an instant buy for me when it does come out!

Guys, be reasonable they made a humble 50 million jk. Agreed. I know Linux people who bought the Steam Controller and are awaiting playback.

If it doesn't come out before XBONE version that will be unacceptable, their reputation will be chared if so.

UPDATED, added a message from a Valve rep.

Interesting, so it might even be that case that it's an issue with the Steam controller mainly and they understandably want to release it working perfectly.

Also in relation with the news about SFV releasing with special support for the Steam controller, Valve seems to be quiet involved in the ports and integration which is nice.

Bought Steam Controller (neato!)
Bought Rocket League (very neato!)
Can't play with 'em - just Linux here.

I call on tenretnI in all her pasta goodness to touch the all powerful ones that control resources for the Linux conversion of Rocket League. May all their wants and wishes be granted.
