The Steam Controller keeps on getting better and better, the latest update is pretty fancy too. You can now take your custom configurations with you, and customize the turn on and turn off sound as well as the brightness of the Steam button. You can also now share non-Steam game configs.
Probably one of the most useful updates to the controller to date, and it has made me pretty happy. Although I did get stuck choosing which turn on sound I wanted:
You then have to wait for it to all be moved:
You can change the settings at any time in the new menu when you hover over your controller:
Since I have two controllers here, this makes it much more useful to find out which is which. As you get this new pop-up come up:
The controller isn't permanently tied to your account either, as you can de-register it from your account at any point by going over the registered account, and pressing X.
Still my favourite gamepad ever.

A possible word of caution: this new update seems to have broken custom config saves for me. I'll look into the settings more closely, but as of last night saving (now called exporting) a configuration only saved the name, but not the bindings. The bindings were all default gamepad bindings, regardless of the original template.
It was late last night when this happened to me, and I haven't yet gone to Steam or Reddit to see if this is a problem others are having en masse, whether it's OS specific, if there are workarounds, etc. And I haven't looked into it yet this morning, but when I saw this article I thought I should mention the issue so others would be aware of it. :)

I ordered 2 from amazon.
Not cheap when customs and shipping is added though.

I've looked through some comments, and saw this from Valve:
Quoting: Finol, 9 hours agoYour old configs should still be on your drive, we have a bug where the new system is looking in the wrong location to find them. We'll try to ship a fix tomorrow.

I'm so sad that Broforce and Super Meat Boy don't detect the Steam Controller on my machine (Fedora 23 64-bits) :(

So if I had to choose between the XBox 360 controller and the Steam Controller, the latter is actually the best choice? Even if I dual boot or use WINE for some games?

I didn't try the Steam Controller yet, but I guess I would choose the Xbox 360 controller for my gaming PC corner, because I've got mouse and keyboard there, but I would try a Steam Controller for the living room, where mouse and keyboard don't have their place.

Even if I dual boot or use WINE for some games?I'd pick the Steam Controller unless you're very used to the XBox 360 already. I use my Steam Controller with and in front of my desktop computer all the time, whereas my Logitech F710 (a very nice XB360 style controller) has been gathering dust as I could never get used to it for anything other than platformers.
Wine is a bit funky since you have to run the game through Steam for the controller to work and since the games I've tried didn't pick up the game specific mappings (likely an issue with Wine), you have to change the default mapping instead - but it works. Windows should be the same: as long as you're using it with Steam, no problem.

Yeah I had the same issue and reported it to a valve dev last night. Fingers crossed on a quick fix.
