Holy cow! Capcom have announced Street Fighter V is coming to Linux & SteamOS which is a series I never thought we would see on Linux.

QuoteHey everyone. I’m excited to announce that Street Fighter V will be officially supporting Steam OS! We are working closely with Valve on this endeavor, and will have more details to announce in the near future, so stay tuned for updates.

Street Fighter V will also support the Steam controller, and you’ll be able to try that out right away during the upcoming beta test that takes place from December 18~20.

See you all online!

I'm pretty happy about this news, as I used to absolutely love these games when I was younger.

It's nice to know that Valve do seem to be having a hand at ports that come along, and I wonder who else is currently moving towards announcing a SteamOS release.

I don't care much for fighting games in general, though I do like some of the MK games. But this is huge news, and I'm really happy for the fighting game fans! I may even pick it up myself at a suitable price down the line. Here's hoping they will bring us more in the future.

Silly Liam, it's not April 1st. :P

I'm not really into fighting games, but it's great news for Linux gaming.

This is huge! I was already hoping so much for this since it was advertised in the launch of the Steam Machines. And now its real! So awesome!
Btw, coincidentally I watched the old "Street Fighter" (1994) movie yesterday. My superstitious mind tells me to watch "Tomb Raider" today so we got more good news tomorrow. ;)

Quoting: GutterdrumsIs beta access for linux only given to those who pre-ordered the game? I know that's the case with the other launch platforms.
Current beta access for the game is for people who preordered it (except on PS4 in a specific region where it's open to anyone for technical reasons though I don't remember the details). But be aware that Capcom just announced the SteamOS port and it will likely be available after the game is released for PS4 & Windows, so I doubt there'll be a Linux beta.

The announce is a bit misleading: it doesn't state that there will be a Linux beta these days, only that with the current beta on Windows (that's due tomorrow), people will be able to test the Steam controller with the game on that platform.

I'm not a big fan of fighting games either, but I'm very happy to see a Capcom game on Linux. I hope it's only the first of many.
