They have also announced a Digital Deluxe Edition along with this new trailer.
I'm not entirely sure on when it will launch on Linux, as the press release was a little vague:

I'm hoping for a day one release, and I hope their wording is to cover themselves if there's a delay, but we will have to wait and see. Their wording makes it sounds like it won't be a day one release, to me anyway.

I love XCom EU & EW, and will certainly get this one when it's out and I've read some reviews to be certain it doesn't disappoint.
Still, I kind of want to play the first one some more, I 'only' have 100 hours in it and wouldn't mind another play through.

If you already did Ironman, you might try Long War.
Didn't test the installer, but they say the mod is great.

Do mods work in linux? I was under the impression they didn't, especially the Long War mod. However, I see the link you posted is for the Linux version, so I'll give it a try.
And yeah, I played ironman on my first play through, though on normal difficulty.

I had the same impression but gave it a google try. As said, I didn't test it.
Iron man was my second successful play through. I guess I'm not the best at strategy, but I had loads of fun.
