Feral Interactive certainly don’t stop, Company of Heroes 2 has an impressive patch alongside The Western Front Armies expansion release on Linux. This patch also enables Linux to Mac online play.

The Western Front Armies expansion pack contains two additional armies, the versatile US Forces and the technologically-advanced Oberkommando West, each with unique units and abilities, as well as eight new maps set in the French and Belgian countryside. These armies are deployed in Skirmish mode, which can be played either online or offline.

I’ve done some benchmarks of the new patch just to test the difference on my own setup, and I have to say I am impressed at how much better it runs.

Note: Remember the in-game benchmark is a stress test, real-world performance is generally higher. I am also at the higher end, performance will be different at the lower-end.

All benchmarks were run multiple times to be sure and as accurate as possible.

As you can see, the performance is much better now for me, so I’m actually quite a bit happier.

How is the performance for you now? Let’s get some readings, so please include your GPU and FPS in the comments.

I am hoping they can roll out these types of improvements to their other titles in time too, and not just focus on pushing out the newest game.

You can find Company of Heroes 2 for Linux on Steam, and the newly supported The Western Front Armies (Double Pack) on Steam here. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Quoting: FightingOkraAnybody find patch notes? Steam tells me to check CoH's forums and CoH's forums tell me to check Steam.

We have not published full patch notes, we'll get something posted on the forums tomorrow.

Seems a bit bottlenecked at 1080p. I doubt it's the CPU though.

Excellent, I want to jump back into this game. I played it for a short while and liked it a lot, but the performance was a drag. Good to hear it has perked up a bit!

Sorry, no livestream tonight, CoH2 is not behaving at all in windowed mode for me to do it.

It's possible it's Unity's hotkeys getting in the way due to the game being in windowed mode, so I will disabled them and try again tomorrow.

Could someone try out windowed mode, and see if the camera rotation works normally in windowed mode for you? Add "-window" to the steam launch options.

Sorry we're kinda busy on a few things right now so the patch notes will have to wait. The article summarised the key things.

Adds Western Front Armies
Improved performance
Supports Mac vs Linux MP

Due to improvements in Mesa & Crimson drivers and some work we have done since the initial release the game is also more stable and performant on AMD hardware however some issues still exist so the game is still not officially supported on AMD graphics. However this patch demonstrates some of the work we have been doing with the driver teams towards official support in the future.

I am alone having issues with quitting the game? It prevents me from closing Steam or launching the game again, it's pretty annoying...

Some people are reporting the hang on exit issue that requires you to kill the process manually. Please coma t Feral support so we can get your machine details and update you once a solution is available via a patch.
