I didn't expect Deep Silver to reply to me so quickly, but it seems the Linux & SteamOS release of Homefront: The Revolution will come out alongside Windows on May 20th!

I am now much more interested in the title now that I know they are aiming for a same-day release. I haven't played the first one, but you don't really need to play it to get what's going on luckily.
About the game
Homefront: The Revolution is an open-world first person shooter where you must lead the Resistance movement in guerrilla warfare against a superior military force.
A living, breathing, open world responds to your actions - you and your Resistance Cell can inspire a rebellion on the streets and turn Occupation into Revolution, as oppressed civilians take up the fight.
But your enemy has the advantage - superior technology, firepower, heavy armour and air support. You must learn the art of guerrilla warfare – ambush, sabotage, infiltration, deception – and fight a running battle through the war-ravaged suburbs of Philadelphia.

I'm really happy to hear this. The first Homefront game had a lot of potential but was a rather underwhelming experience that was fairly quickly forgotten by the public at large. When this game was first announced I didn't have much interest in it, on account of the aforementioned first game being so underwhelming, but when they showed off the first gameplay footage and detailed how the game would work, I was impressed.
Then the whole Crytek financial situation happened. The studio making this game nearly shut down and it was looking like this would be a cancelled project. Deep Silver stepped in and bought the IP and essentially the entire studio that was making the game, saving the game. Still, even with Deep Silver's recent Linux-friendly attitude, I was worried about the status of the Linux version of this game, given how close the game came to not existing at all.
Seeing this response makes me quite happy. Assuming the game gets a good reception, I'll happily pick this up on launch or shortly thereafter (depending on when reviews appear) at full price.

For a period of time Crytek was unable (or unwilling) to pay employees, including those working at Crytek UK (formerly Free Radical Design). Crytek sold the Homefront IP to Deep Silver and laid off the entire staff of Crytek UK. Said staff became the newly established Dambuster Studios owned by Koch Media (Deep Silver's parent company) and continued to work on the game.

While I don't agree with the sentiment that the game is propaganda, I also don't think "it's a game" is a very good attitude to have towards the medium. Games are no less capable of having things to say and to affect our way of thinking. Games, just like books, film, etc. can mould how we view the world.

Sounds nice, never played Homefront, but 1st-day releases are the good thing!

The funny thing about this Homefront game is that Crysis, using Cryengine 2, was about a strong and technologically advanced North Korea (and aliens).
Speaking of Crysis, I wold love to see Crytek buy the IP from EA and launch it for other platforms. It would be nice to play Crysis 3 outside that terrible Origin client.
