Jason Ekstrand, a developer hired by Intel has done a presentation about Vulkan at FOSDEM 2016. The slides are interesting, but not too in-depth to overwhelm you.

All this stuff tends to confuse me as a non-developer, so I very much appreciate getting a better understanding when the slides language is a bit more down to my own personal level.

According to the X.Org G+ post here, there will be videos too, so I can't wait to see the proper talk.

It's exciting to see more and more Vulkan talks, as it's a key component to the future of Linux gaming. Apparently The Talos Principle will get an update featuring Vulkan when it arrives too, can't wait to see the performance next to the current OpenGL version.

We also know that Ashes of the Singularity will also come to Linux after Vulkan is released. I am especially excited about this one, as it's a massive RTS game.

What is FOSDEM?
FOSDEM is a two-day event organised by volunteers to promote the widespread use of free and open source software.

Taking place in the beautiful city of Brussels (Belgium), FOSDEM is widely recognised as the best such conference in Europe. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

ARK: Survival Evolved devs have also expressed interest in a Vulkan update once UE4 supports it. The Windows build is getting DX12 in a few weeks so it would be nice to keep pace.

I love that Croteam will port Talos to Vulkan. Bet that they are doing it as a way to gain experience with Vulkan quickly too.

From what I've seen, it's been "getting DX12 in a few weeks" for a few months now :P. Along with some other bug fixes which always seem to be "a few weeks away" but never get done.

I'm really looking forward to ARK getting Vulkan support, the fps should be a lot better and being able to actually get all the shaders working will be awesome to see. good times ahead :)

Its been getting dx12 in 2 weeks since win10 was released...

Never happen as it's a nv sponsored title so I don't hold out hope for vulkan any time soon.

Hey guys I know this is a little bit off topic, but aren't you concerned with the choices NVIDIA has been taking lately? ( Long read but worth it: https://www.reddit.com/comments/367qav/ )

I own a NVIDA GPU, but I don't really like how it seems they're using Gameworks as a monopoly tool.

I'm actually very afraid that things like Project Cars (which has PhisiX embedded in the game code) start to happen more and more often. Not only AMD (phisix flooding the CPU) users will suffer but previous generations of NVIDIA also (with planned obsolescence).

With Unreal Engine 4 being so close to NVIDIA and adopting Gameworks, I'm really worried.


PS: TBH I'm more affraid of what will happen with the GPU market than what will happen with the API wars.

From the descriptions of some of the events (see previous article about it), it sounds like Vulkan will be released as well as some games using it, but we shall see.

Both companies are on the shitlist for things like that as far as I'm concerned. Like there were some Hardware Tessellation bits you could enable in games like Tomb Raider, and nvidia cards would slow to a crawl.

Respect gameworks, i test bombshell and this title have gameworks for destruction objects

However this situation could be more common because nvidia have more money than amd (with this them can could make many things: delay titles, add gameworks for more titles, maybe can delay vulkan launch like happen today and many other things)
