Thanks as usual to SteamDB, it seems Rocket League is making preparations for the promised Linux & SteamOS version.

Hooray!

I can't wait to get some games going, I've been wanting to try it badly ever since I first heard about it. Hopefully the wait is nearly over!

The last we heard is that it would be out before the Xbox One version next month, so I'm hoping for the end of this month.

This could easily be the next game we end up doing a tournament for after our current GRID Autosport tournament is finished, but it depends on the release date.

About the game (Official)
Soccer meets driving once again in the long-awaited, physics-based sequel to the beloved arena classic, Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars!

A futuristic Sports-Action game, Rocket League, equips players with booster-rigged vehicles that can be crashed into balls for incredible goals or epic saves across multiple, highly-detailed arenas. Using an advanced physics system to simulate realistic interactions, Rocket League relies on mass and momentum to give players a complete sense of intuitive control in this unbelievable, high-octane re-imagining of association football. Yay! I was introduced to this game by my family and got hooked. Looks like I'll be adding another 'big' game to my Steam library.

There is cross platform play between Windows and PlayStation so I'd be shocked if Linux was by itself.

yeah I believe it's confirmed to be cross platform. It's awesome that even Playstation is included. I hope that will be the norm some day.

dunno, as for rocket league the utility of having cross platform multiplayer stops at having a larger playerbase as they really don't communicate or can be added as friends

I tried this at Christmas, I lost every game but it's great fun, can't wait to lose some more playing this in Linux. :D

The player base is really all I care about in this respect - I've played too many deserted multiplayer games. They are, quite obviously, worthless.

There is a 30% discount on Steam on the game now. Probably wise to get prior its released and save some pennies.

Eh? You know it works with virtually every game, right?

They were probably referring to the fact Rocket League was "designed for the Steam Controller", so it should come with a default configuration for Steam controllers that works really well with the game out-of-the-box.

That's not even remotely what they said, so how you can infer such details is puzzling.

Regardless, I seriously doubt there will be a nice default configuration. After three months of use, I've found what works best for me, and I've yet to come across one default config that felt right to me - not even those provided by Valve. But that's the genius of the Steam Controller - you can customize it to whatever the hell you want. The controller adapts to you, not you to the controller, and it is fantastic. Letting it collect dust, as the original comment insinuated, is criminal.
