They were probably referring to the fact Rocket League was "designed for the Steam Controller", so it should come with a default configuration for Steam controllers that works really well with the game out-of-the-box.

That's not even remotely what they said, so how you can infer such details is puzzling.

Regardless, I seriously doubt there will be a nice default configuration. After three months of use, I've found what works best for me, and I've yet to come across one default config that felt right to me - not even those provided by Valve. But that's the genius of the Steam Controller - you can customize it to whatever the hell you want. The controller adapts to you, not you to the controller, and it is fantastic. Letting it collect dust, as the original comment insinuated, is criminal.

The Rocket League ad advertised great support for the Steam Controller, and the game came free if you pre-purchased a Steam Controller or Steam Link (and probably a Machine as well) along with Portal 2, so you're wrong.

Yes, I pre-ordered my Steam Controller and got it on day one, including a code for Rocket League and Portal 2 (which I already owned). The Portal 2 controls are OK, but like I said, they're not THE BEST. I've used the Steam Controller for months now, EVERY DAY, and it's fantastic. But the chances of some random person out there making a default config that *I* will be happy with are pretty slim. Have you even used a Steam Controller? There are a near infinite number of possibilities for configuring and tweaking everything about it, and the chances of someone nailing a config that most people will be happy with are inversely proportional to that. Sure, some might get close, but like I said, I've yet to find one that hasn't needed changes. Just one example, almost every config out there uses the stupid analog stick for movement. That's so 1996, and the trackpad works amazingly - once you get used to it - and it is more versatile and comfortable to use than the analog stick. Same deal with using the face buttons... With a 360-style gamepad, you will probably use the X and A buttons a TON, but they're the LEAST comfortable to reach on a Steam Controller. Just slapping up a config that essentially duplicates a 360 pad with minor changes is NOT ENOUGH. If you had a Steam Controller, you'd know this. It is the gamepad equivalent to overclocking and tweaking and optimizing and recompiling kernels and all that kind of thing.

I understand you can't yet play Rocket League, but the way you worded this, you make it sound like you can't use a Steam Controller in Linux either... Why? You can, you know?

Thanks @adolson for your questions! You are right the Steam Controller works fine in Linux. Rocket League is the game on which I hope to waste my time. Do you know of a Linux game similar to Rocket League?
