Well, I'm glad I didn't buy it on a promise. Rocket League developers have confirmed it's going to be another 6 to 8 weeks before the SteamOS & Linux version is ready.

So we've gone from "later this year" in 2015, then to before the end of December, then before the Xbox One version in February and now it's another six to eight weeks at the end of January.

@rachelleambrum RL is still coming to Mac/Linux. Our vendor via Valve hit some unexpected snags, but both look to be on track for Q1.

@BeastBoy561 Right after the SteamOS version, which we expect to be out in the next six to eight weeks (or so).

What a shame, but delays happen. It's another reminder not to buy a game before the Linux/SteamOS version actually exists to play. You have only yourself to blame if you ignore my constant warnings on doing so. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Patience my friends.

I know the urge to play with balls is hard to resist, but in this case, time is on our side.

Was planning on playing this to tide me over until XCOM 2, now it seems like it'll be the other way around.

Linux/SteamOS Projects seem to be getting so many delays these days that it's never a surprise anymore. I'm happy they're doing it at all though, RL is so much fun!

Hopefully this means it will be a better port.

What exactly does "our vendor via Valve" mean? To me it sounds like a financial issue rather than a technical one.
WorMzy 27 Jan 2016
I got it free with my Steam Controller, and I'm not convinced that it's deserving of all the hype surrounding it, so I'm not too upset. Still, delays suck.

Sounds like Valve contracted the port out for them (Valve gave the port to someone else to do, and they are having trouble).

I was expecting it not later than February actually, a bit of a drag but well, more time to play other games.
HadBabits 27 Jan 2016
Ooohhhh, I think I now see why Valve chose this and Portal 2 to be the SteamBox gift titles :O Normally one would want two great games that are new to the platform, but failing that they ingeniously picked an old game and a game that won't be available on said platform for months to round things out :P

Seriously though, what a goof on Valve's part. I wonder how many SteamBox owners got sour over that (I certainly would be). And I wish Psyonix would be a bit more transparent. It always annoys me when devs get all tight lipped; giving the impression of snubbing the community, either out of sloth or snootiness.

Well then, I guess I'll be pirating the game once it comes out to show them how I feel about all these delays and stuff. Anyone with me?

Go ahead and pirate all you want. Just don't think the developer will ever know about your noble act of defiance.

Telling them directly what you think of the way things worked out (or not) might just be a bit more effective. But then again, mailing them isn't very likely to get you the game for free...

Yeah! Nothing says "you should take Linux more seriously in the future" like stealing the game and extremely low sales.

Seriously? Linux just started gaining momentum with commercial games. We absolutely do not have wiggle room to carry out petty revolts.
ElectricPrism 27 Jan 2016
Still want to play, hopefully its worth the wait it when it comes.

Steam is like 1,000% easier than pirating and its nice knowing that your money is going directly to the creators and not some 3rd party with their hand in the candy bowl renting shelf space in some brick and mortar store and taking a big cut.

Also, have fun reinstalling each game every time you change to a new distro and having 50 bugs per game and a huge mess.

Can't play with 'em - just Linux here.

I call on tenretnI in all her pasta goodness to touch the all powerful ones that control resources for the Linux conversion of Rocket League. May all their wants and wishes be granted.

An interesting announcement [here](http://steamcommunity.com/games/252950/announcements/detail/747966964575089458)!

Later this month, you can register in teams of three, for a chance to win the very first Rocket League championship title. The three-month season kicks off with open qualifiers and we’ll have a total prize pool of $75,000 USD for the first season. All matches will be played on the PlayStation®4 (PS4™) computer entertainment system and Windows PC, with additional platform support to be revealed in the future. Stay tuned!

I'm really hoping this extra platform is Linux!
