2015 has come and gone and it's time to welcome the year 2016. It was quite the coincidence that the first day of 2016 happened to be a Friday so we get to celebrate it almost immediately with the GOL Friday tradition.

People talk about their New Year's resolutions during these times and I decided to talk about my New Year's resolution as well: 1280x720. Yes, that number means that the stream is transitioning from SD quality to HD quality thanks to my new 50 Mbps 4G connection which replaces my old 21 Mbps 3G connection. My upload speed has improved from 2.5 to 10 Mbps which definitely allows HD streaming.

You can naturally find the stream here: http://www.twitch.tv/gamingonlinux

New releases have been on the slow side but I did manage to dig something up. I bought Quake 1, 2 and 3 from GOG recently and have been messing with them recently, so we'll try some Quake 1 on the stream with the Darkplaces engine. The second game is Sunken, an early access RPG with roguelike elements that was released very recently on Steam. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

On GOG there is no quake 1/2/3 version available for Linux. Are you using Wine or another third software to play quake on Linux?

I'm using source ports of the original engines used to run those games. All the engines used to run Quake games were eventually open sourced and we have a ton of engine forks to run them these days. For Quake 1 I use Darkplaces, Yamagi Quake for Quake 2 and ioquake3 will probably run Quake 3 just fine.
