Sad news, I was really looking forward to playing The Vanishing of Ethan Carter but it looks like I won't get a chance. The developers have come across too many issues.
They had come across some issues a few days back:
@AngryPenguinPL Still looking, but first attempts were not encouraging, sadly :( (lots of heavy visual errors etc.)

And now it's on hold:
QuoteSorry to keep you all waiting for so long. We did some tests with Linux and we experienced a lot of difficulties. Because of that, we put the port on hold for now but may return to it at some point.

Looks like Unreal Engine 4 has ways to go to fix up their Linux support properly.
I hope none of you were silly enough to buy it based on their comments about looking into it before, as you know we have a hard stance here: Don't buy it until it's on Linux and playable.
Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:

I completely disagree. I think it's *their* code that doesn't work and is badly (inportable) written.
I've been in the Linux Game Testing for The Mean Greens - and I can say: They basically just built it and threw it out -- and it worked.
Yes, some maps were darker and had some issues. The water shader didn't work.
BUT: This was fixed rather easily and it's now fully playable and quite performant.
They themselves spoke positively about how the UE4 was easing their port.

They don't want to spent more time to port on Linux. They want to give up this project so they found these issues.

I am in the testing too and as much as I remember, we should not discuss any of this in public until its released.

Someone asked more specific what we are allowed and there were some restrictions on it. That's why I wasn't too specific about things (and they feared more negative news than positive, I guess ;-))

Sad news indeed. I still find this game quite interesting and it would've been great to have it for Linux as well. But then again, so many great games coming to Linux these days, I don't really feel like it's a loss.

Agreed, It was for the original testing regards footage and what not, after the last patch it runs on par with boarderlands now, thats on AMD to boot. Must admit I've kept quiet about it. pity they didn't have a forum solely for those testing it .
So I agree with the census here, their excuse is BS, every other unreal powered game has not only run fine but well too!

Now now, no need to throw insults around. They are having issues with their game, the UE comment was clearly my own.

There want an insult thrown, though I admit I miss read it and read as they said UE4 has a ways to go.
I Apologies to the devs/forum members !

I have the feeling this one will make its way to Linux with a UT engine 4 port, in the end.

I'll buy it if it's ported, if not I have plenty of games to keep me busy without it.
