Everyone playing ARK: Survival Evolved on Linux can calm down now, as BattlEye now supports Linux and it's already live.
A whole two day delay to get it in the Linux version, I would say that's a pretty good turn-around for this sort of thing.

I am extremely hopeful that Virtual Programming can work with BattlEye to get it working on the Linux port of Arma 3 now too. This should cross of one of the reasons listed here.

Apple supports their own version of OpenGL which is not necessarily the same as on Windows or Linux.

It's a shame if it's true. I'm grateful to Mac as a platform since it pushes developers to porting to *nix and Linux isn't that far away from Mac. But once in a while Mac starts getting in the way.I suppose not only it still has bad performance but also bad visuals. IIRC, the engine supports OGL 4.5 but they for some reason only support 3.x on Mac/Linux. And the "True Sky" plugin isn't supported on those platforms completely.
Probably because Mac only supports up to 3.3 and Apple sees no need to upgrade it especially since they're pushing their Metal API now. Hopefully the Ark devs see the light and push Vulkan support along with their plans for DX12 since the UE4 will support Vulkan once its released.
Also, there were rainbow/blackout glitches. I doubt they were fixed as well. I could estimate that it releases not before 2017, maybe then the Linux version would be more in shape.

How is the performance of ARK these days? I recall it was pretty bad around launch?
Lots of missing and corrupted textures on the Linux version, black and rainbow when I played a few weeks ago. Performance is very bad compared to the visuals you do get.
Still a problem with wrong kb layout as well. Which is bloody annoying.
If you're looking to play ARK on Linux, then don't buy it. I would even say that you shouldn't buy it at all because the devs have all the wrong priorities.

Yeah the solution for ARK under windows and Linux (at same time) is to just go Vulkan. I am sure allot of the DX12 code can be used in preparing Vulkan support which will be worth it down the line. Nothing more painful then having to develop your game on TWO APIs completely different from each other (D3D/OGL).
