Crusader Kings II: Conclave expansion now available

By -
The newest expansion for the acclaimed Crusader Kings II is now available, focusing on bringing more options for fine-tuning how your realm is run. A big patch has also been released to all owners of the base game, bringing with it many quality of life improvements.

Over the years, the highly successful Crusader Kings II has gotten a plethora of expansions which is a testament to its enduring popularity. With the last release in July of last year we were overdue for another expansion that adds more to the ambitious sandbox. In this case, Conclave seems to provide some of what fans have hoped for for years, namely more in-depth education options for your children and more intrigue with a more fleshed-out council and favors system. If a more dynamic mercenary system and combat mechanic changes don't sound appealing to you, then you obviously haven't spent hundreds of hours with the game like the average player does.

As with all expansions, Paradox Development Studios has also released a rather beefy patch that improves the game and adds free content to all players. Things like reduced loading times, infamy mechanics and better diplomacy are all well and good but the full patch notes also feature a few choice changes that are fun to take out of context:

PDS-Getting killed by assassins no longer forces you to die twice.
-Fix that should stop the humans giving birth to horses.
- Your eunuch sons will no longer get the serving maids pregnant.
- Can now click on links again on Linux!

Crusader Kings II: Conclave is split between the actual expansion and optional cosmetic additions giving players the flexibility to pick and choose what they want to buy. Additionally, there's a new Viking Metal music pack for those who like to raid and pillage in style. You can buy it directly from Paradox's webshop, Games Republic (using this link will help GOL by giving it a cut of the sale) or directly through Steam. All options require activation on Steam. History, sci-fi, technology, cooking, writing and playing games are things I enjoy very much. I'm always keen to try different genres of games and discover all the gems out there.

Oh and the name doesn't mean anything but coincidentally could be pronounced as "Buttery" which suits me just fine.

You know, one of these days, I'll actually manage to finish a game of Crusader Kings II or Europa Universalis IV before the next major patch is released. Hasn't happened yet, though.

Haha same. I still haven't got Horse Lords yet, but this one actually looks a lot more tempting.

I know I always say this, but they should just hurry up and release Victoria III. I don't care for HoI at all, but I'll probably end up buying it anyway... I swear I give these people half my gaming budget.

LOL the patch has made the game pretty unplayable. Everyone in the kingdom hates me and without the DLC it seems there's no easy way to get them to like me. Gifts and honorary titles only give half the points as they used to...

So Paradox gimps the game to force you to buy the DLCs, or is it an honest bug?

No idea. It might be different if you start a fresh game, but this is for one I started a while back.

EDIT: OK, so even the "hold a grand tournament" decision is missing for me... Essentially all of the mechanics for getting people to like you are either missing or severely reduced.

You should start a fresh game since things like crown laws were reworked and thus will be reset/messed up in an old save game. If you need to finish your game, try rolling back to the previous patch in the 'betas' tab on Steam.

I know that opinion modifiers have been generally nerfed but in return your heir gets 50% of the positives you had upon succession. I'm not sure how everything else works because I haven't played a proper game yet.

Oh and feasts and tournaments definitely still show up for me and I haven't bought the expansion yet. They've been reworked somehow but I'm not sure of the details.

Didn't they do the same with Common Sense expansion for EU4?
There were many reviews and forum threads stating something like that: http://steamcommunity.com/id/Kaspa000/recommended/338163/

Yes, Paradox has always recommended you start a new game any time there is a major update.
