Fantastic news, looks like Mad Max is actually coming to Linux if new information from SteamDB is to be believed. Another AAA game to join the ranks on Linux.

Popping it's head on SteamDB today:

234146/config/oslist: linux

And much more on there.

If you don't remember, SteamOS was originally confirmed as a platform for the game, then utter silence since. Looks like it slipped out early?

About the game (Official)
Become Mad Max, the lone warrior in a savage post-apocalyptic world where cars are the key to survival. In this action-packed, open world, third person action game, you must fight to stay alive in The Wasteland, using brutal on-ground and vehicular against vicious gangs of bandits. A reluctant hero with an instinct for survival, Max wants nothing more than to leave the madness behind and find solace in the storied “Plains of Silence.” Players are challenged with treacherous missions as they scavenge the dangerous landscape for supplies to build the ultimate combat vehicle. Quoting: GBeeHaving played Shadow of Mordor a lot lately, this game looks a lot alike ... and I mean A LOT. Not exactly excited to end up playing what effectively turns out to be "Shadow of Mad Max".

It really is a lot like it. Run to a Tower / Town, beat up a bunch of guys, find some objectives. Go to the next spot, rinse and repeat. Mad Max is a blast because you get to drive around a pimped out car and run people off the road. Going after convoys really give you the feel of being in a Mad Max movie.

Actually Shadow of Mordor is probably closer to the Batman games in game play.

Please let this be true.

Ech, as someone who plays ps4 on the side another open world game makes me feel a bit bloated Especially when it's a bunch of meaningless sprawl, I suppose I'm just more of a linear boy :B

Though I'll admit I'm also still sour after such an insulting radio silence. Game publishers need to get over themselves.

Well, no one officially came out and canceled port, so I guess they just waited for actual release to hype it. Yes, companies are weird regarding their SteamOS ports, but as their PR budgets are limited, maybe they just don't bother yet at this point.

While game seems to be deemed as medicore, I will buy it, because desert and buggies. Moment by moment gameplay looks atmospheric, and that's good enough for me.

Couldn't be more right.

I suspect they just don't care much about SteamOS - or they are very careful and not want to poke gamer's nest regarding SteamOS which might come up as sour subject. Either way I agree but I don't think that was deliberate. They just don't know how to handle us yet.

It's a big corporation. There is no "they", unless you mean the shareholders, and they only care about lining their pockets. This is probably just a case of one hand not knowing what the other hand is doing. Finance probably crunched the numbers and declared a Linux port feasible and passed it along to PR.

Then at some point, someone in management was probably supposed to commission a port but was never told by finance. The person in finance who got the ball rolling in the first place might not even know what SteamOS or Linux are. They might not know anything about games in general.
