Well, this is awkward, Nvidia have also released a driver on Linux with Vulkan support. This leaves AMD to be the only desktop GPU vendor not to have one ready for testing on Linux. When amdgpu is out though, AMD will be back in the game.

Long story short, yes, you have to downgrade your driver to get Vulkan support right now,and considering there's only one single application on Linux capable of utilizing itoutside of the SDK,unless you really feel the need to be among the first to test Talos principle, or(actually nevermind, Talos principle beta only runs on Windows for now. There's currently ZERO Vulkan capable Linux apps outside of the samples and the SDK) unless you are a developer who's about to leap into Vulkan development themselves, just wait till Vulkan makes it up into the main branch, you aren't missing out for now.
yeah i understand what's going on but it would seemingly make more sense with the 361 series to beta test since it's already a "beta" driver anyway. but whichever... nvidia has their reasons I'm sure. i don't mind having to downgrade though to test things out when the games start to show support.

You have to install Vulkan beta driver 355.00. It seems Vulkan API Is just added to older version of driver as it is for testing. When it will be OKed by QA, they will add it to latest driver release.
Thanks a lot. I would test Vulkan samples. I will try to install Ubuntu 14.04 in a USB and then install the 355.00 driver

seeing as 355.11 is the most stable driver, calling it a downgrade is a bit far fetched. No performance improvements have come along since that AFAIK.

I am severely disappointed. Vulkan is AMD's brainchild. They have no excuse to be behind this time.
It looks like they didn't even have a contingency plan (proprietary driver). Now I cannot trust them when they say they might be able to support 300 series cards and older with AMDGPU. Vulkan was supposed to be supported via their proprietary driver, yet here we are with nothing.
Why does it matter if AMDGPU supports more than just GCN 1.2? Vulkan support is tied to AMDGPU now apparently.
It looks like they didn't even have a contingency plan (proprietary driver). Now I cannot trust them when they say they might be able to support 300 series cards and older with AMDGPU. Vulkan was supposed to be supported via their proprietary driver, yet here we are with nothing.

This is nothing new, and I don't care what the AMD diehard believers say. Maybe NVidia has just pushed forward so fast as a marketing move to make everyone think "Oh look, AMD is behind again" and if that was their plan then it looks like it worked judging by the comments.
NVidia just showed up to the party early, and now we're all awkwardly sitting around without anything to actually do waiting for the other guests to arrive. Because the only game that supports Vulkan (windows only) wasn't even really designed to take advantage of vulkan yet (and as someone put it, is just a proof of concept).
The party hasn't started yet and AMD might still show up on time.

I wouldn't say it is good comparison. As for now, developers can only test their code against NVIDIA, so they will learn to find fast paths on NVIDIA cards, they will writes books, guides and howtos based on NVIDIA cards and again ppl start to complain, "oh but my Radeon is so much faster than GF but the developers are bad people corrupted by NVIDIA!"
