The wait is nearly over to have Street Fighter V on Linux & SteamOS. The developers have confirmed it will be available for us this Spring.
QuoteAttention Steam users and Street Fighter V players! Our development team is working closely with Valve engineers to bring the full Street Fighter V experience onto the SteamOS platform.
This will be a free update to all Street Fighter V Steam players and will be released this Spring. More news will be shared soon, so stay tuned.
So, Valve are helping with both Street Fighter and Rocket League. I wonder how many others they are helping with.

Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
This will be pretty awesome IF (big if) they don't pull the same crap I've been seeing with other fighting games lately. Like Mortal Kombat X and Dead or Alive, where you basically have to pay 5-10 bucks for extra characters. Seriously, the whole DLC concept is ruining the video game industry. But us stupid people want the complete game, so we still end up buying it... I wouldn't have that big of a problem with it if the games would be released at 20 bucks, then had added content later at like 5 bucks per... Or even if they did it like Neverwinter Nights, where 5 bucks was another semi-lengthy campaign. But the method of 'pay 2 dollars for some skins' crap is lame.
So hopefully they don't modularize this one like that. DLC has also been an excuse for releasing games that aren't complete, and then making people pay more money to complete them... it's crap.
Sorry, for the rant!

Hopefully it will use the Vulkan backend that is being developed for Unreal Engine 4.

QuoteThis will be a free update to all Street Fighter V Steam players and will be released this Spring.Just keep in mind, that Shadow of Mordor was meant to be released Spring 2015. And it was released on 30th of July. I know that it is different company that is responsible for the port, but still, just a good idea to keep it in mind.

As a very big Linux-friendly company is invalved it might indicate a Vulkan port.

So, who thinks it will use Vulkan? Be interesting to see!

Quoting: KeyrockAwesome. I'll scoop it up when it's on the penguin, even though fighting games generally aren't my jam.
Same. Though I've quite enjoyed the Soulcalibur series in the past, so I'd enjoy this as well if it has a decent career mode, customisation, etc.

According to what we saw on videos and the first impressions from the greatest sources around - including Fighters Generation - Street Fighter V plays pretty much like Street Fighter III Third Strike, and that's a real good thing. Also they decided to drop their politics of releasing several versions of the same game just for a new character or new super moves. Whether it means it will be DLC heavy, we don't know.
Also I would love to have an announcement about the latest KOF installment but maybe I'm asking for too much. Having both series on Linux/SteamOS would be a dream come true. At least we had an SNK Humble Bundle recently so we know the doors aren't shut for us. Or at least getting 98/2002 Ultimate Match editions ported over... SNK, please...
P.S. : I tried some KOF not long ago on a Steam Controller and it was the worst vs fighting experience I had since the XBox 360 and its crappy cross. To be fair, I think it's the only thing this controller can't handle. I think it's time for getting an X-Arcade...

At this moment, impossible.
The games we are playing today (this month and the next 2) have been programmed 2 years ago.
And 2 years ago there wasn't Vulkan.
If Vulkan is released now, expect games in the next one or two years...
maybe some companies like Valve who are directly involved have been playing with it for some time, are going to be the first ones.
Also: this game is done with Unreal Engine. This engine handles Linux with Opengl. Unreal Engine still doesnt have Vulkan support.

Damn, looks like DLC fest... I guess we shall wait for a sale to get the season pass, which will be around $30 full price... Really annoying when you consider the $50 price for the base game.
