The cogs are rolling, and XCOM 2 is extremely close to release. So close in fact that we finally have the XCOM 2 system requirements for Linux players. This is confirmed by 2K directly, but Feral have yet to confirm it directly.

Correction: 2K had it wrong, here's the requirements directly from Feral Interactive.

Sadly, it's another major release on Linux that only supports Nvidia. It might work on AMD & Intel, but you're on your own for now. Probably the usual case of open source drivers have bugs/incomplete OpenGL support, and AMD Catalyst probably has the usual known performance problems.

RECOMMENDED
OS: Ubuntu 14.04.2 64-bit or Steam OS
Processor: Intel i7 series
RAM: 8GB
Graphics: 2GB NVIDIA 960

MINIMUM
OS: Ubuntu 14.04.2 64-bit or Steam OS
Processor: Intel i3-3225 3.3 GHz
RAM: 4GB
Graphics: 1GB NVIDIA 650

The minimum is pretty low, so it looks like it might scale reasonably well across the lower-end. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I'm getting close to minimum with my GTX660 these days.
Time to upgrade, but I wanted to wait for this year's new chip generation.

As AMD user I'll most likely have to play it under Windows.

Same here with my factory-overclocked GTX660 (should be on par with a GTX660ti). In my case though, I should probably upgrade everything since I have an i3-2120 3,30GHz CPU and 8GB RAM. Won't be any time soon though, as I'm still able to play the latest Linux games with OK performance at medium-high; Alien Isolation runs absolutely great at high, Shadow of Mordor runs fine on medium, but Cities Skylines is an absolute memory-hog and quickly fills the 8GB, even without mods.
I just hope I can play X-Com 2 when I eventually pick it up.

You'll can buy it on the Feral store, then play it under windows :p

It's rather cute they recommend just an i3. Seems like a decently optimized game.

I have "just" a GTX760 but 960 barely beats in benchmarks so I think I am good.

Phew - my trusty old gtx680 is still valid.
I'll not purchase a new graphics card until I know what the requirements of the Valve VR set will be.

I have a Nvidia Gtx 970M.

Do you think that I can use the ultra settings ?
Arehandoro Feb 3, 2016
I'm good for this one, can't complain at all :)

GTX 770 here, good to go. :D

Bought it and it´s nice to see I can handle the recommended level. (close to dead-on)

Still, I´m a little bit annoyed that XCOM2 only shows up in the windows steam-library but not in the linux library yet. Oh well, I bought "Firewatch" as well today and that title is at least listed & ready for pre-load/download. (when available)

I don't understand. On 2k website, the recommended graphic card for Windows is à Nvidia 770 but for Linux it's a 960...

Very strange

Just to say that Feral have been doing a lot of work to get things running under Mesa recently (really, really awesome to see). It's still not official support, and will likely require running the latest git version of Mesa (11.2), but I can personally vouch for several games from Feral running, and running well, with Mesa (r600 and radeonsi - sorry, no intel chips to test with).
So if you're unsure, wait for a bit to see if your hardware will, unofficially, handle the game.

Looks like it is Unreal 3, so must be using OpenGL3.3. If so, opensource drivers must play it ok. Feral's port of Grid Autosport is Nvidia only too but plays smoothly in my Radeon with the latest Gallium drivers.

Mesa drivers are advancing really quickly, we already got OpenGL4.1, 4.2 is just around the corner and by Q3 I think we must have OpenGL4.3 covered.

I pre-ordered it already, so hope my GTX660M can manage. The previous XCOM game ran fine, and it's turn-based... how much GPU power could it possibly need? :)

Agreed. Although it seems right now that the mesa devs are more oriented toward stabilization of the drivers since there's been only one update of GL3.txt (and for Intel) in several weeks. (Or they're working on Vulkan?)

UPDATE

2K have the wrong requirements.

The actual recommended CPU and RAM:
Processor: Intel i7 series
RAM: 4GB

Article has been updated.

The 770 is more powerful than the 960 and more expensive, so that's good for us.
nocri Feb 3, 2016
I just hope that by MINIMUM they mean minimum to play in 1920 ... I hope my 740M can render it at >=25 fps in resolution 1366 on lowest details, because it's already preordered :)

Why buy it on Feral store, to reward their bad decisions? They should feel the sting of their incompetence.

So with my GtX 970m which have ~ the same performances than a 770, I Will have the possibility to play with maximal settings.

Youhou :D
