Recently I wrote about Ethan Lee offering to help port it, and in the same post this has now been said:
QuoteI've updated the Q&A for launch. Depending on sales of the game, there will be version for both MAC and Linus (.....linux. For linux.)
Source.
You can also see the Q&A post they are talking about here:
QuoteWill this come to MAC / Linus?
Depending on sales of the game, most likely!
It's not surprising as the the game only has Eric Barone "ConcernedApe" working on it. Even if he did bring someone like Ethan in to port the game, there's still likely to be a lot of time he will lose talking to Ethan about it, and it's probably not worth it just yet.
The game is still hitting new highs, with a record 31,574 playing it on Steam at time of writing, so I do wonder what their target is to look into Linux & Mac?

That's both good and bad. Good, because yay new game.
Bad because... Relying on sales for another platform means it's cutting in to the stats of it a bit. It'll be skewed, as always.

It's the top seller on Steam right now, and as mentioned in the article it has over 30 thousand people playing it right now. You might not be interested, but a lot are ;)

Just reading through that Q&A you linked, it does look like it is coming. If this really is a good Harvest Moon type game, I may have to get it. Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town was a large part of my childhood. It also looks like marriage in the game is gender neutral, so +1 for that.

well at least the replies let them know there are a good number interested. hopefully things work out for a Linux and Mac release. and in their Q&A shows a "most likely!" response so we shall see :)

What stupid way to gauge interest. I recall the Hatred devs doing the same thing. Or are they simply saying "If this project does not return X amount of revenue, we reason that revenue from a smaller platform won't cover costs"?
Build for Linux from day one. Avoid platform dependent middleware.

Not every developer is interested in tiny platforms like us, we really can't blame them since the return is often rather low.
Also, they aren't gauging interest in Linux by Windows sales, they haven't said that and neither have I.
They are hoping their game is a success to move it to other platforms, pretty simple to understand, especially for a one developer team.

That's how i understood it. They just don't have the money/manpower to do it right now and would have to have good sales to invest into other platforms. If it ever does come to Linux it would probably be quite a while from now. If he tried focusing on all 3 platforms from the start it might have taken longer to make. From what i gather he started working on this 4 years ago and the landscape wasn't as favorable towards Linux back then. Even now things are just starting to kick off with things like Vulkan.
My guess is that late 2016 or 2017 is when games would start being released with Linux in mind from the start if things catch on.

Too many people have made the mistake, myself included, of falling for the old "buy it now on Windows & we'll give you a Linux version some day" nonsense, not happening with me this time, no way.
