Albion Online continues to get better with this latest major update to the indie MMORPG. It includes a re-work of armour types, tons of new spells and much more.

Reminder: The game will be wiped before the full release sometime around the end of August, so be aware if you plan to buy it now.
I'm really excited to see Albion Online progress, as it's really our only proper MMORPG on Linux. It has literally removed any need I had for something like WoW, but I'm not putting proper time into it any more until they do the final progress wipe.
This big update has focused a lot on the PvE content, adding in a lot more of it to the mix which is awesome. Not everyone will want to always do PvP combat, so it's pleasing to see them flesh it all out some more.
The armour rework is also rather welcome, as it's much easier to understand:
They have also done their usual quality of life fixes like these:
I also like that going into higher zones actually has more of a benefit now too:
The only real issues have with the game right now is that the Linux download has the game content in the wrong place, so when you launch it you have to download it again as an "update". And it starts on the wrong screen for me, but you can drag it to another screen easily.

QuoteWhile we were quite happy with the distinct combat roles heavy, medium and light armors offered, the differentiation of Cloth, Leather and Plate on top of it was making the system too convoluted and hard to read. That is why we simplified it with this update: now, all heavy armors are Plate, all medium armors are Leather, and all light armors are Cloth.
They have also done their usual quality of life fixes like these:
Quote- Characters and mobs that are behind terrain features or other large props will now be highlighted so they're substantially easier to see. (can be disabled)
- It is now possible to travel directly to your island from another city, paying the travel fees as if you'd travelled to the host city first.
- Moving into and out of interaction range of buildings, chests etc will now update much more promptly.
I also like that going into higher zones actually has more of a benefit now too:
QuoteBonus Fame, silver and loot is now awarded in more dangerous areas, as follows:
Yellow zone: 50% bonus
Red zone: 100% bonus
Black zone: 100% bonus
Gateway dungeons: 100%

And it starts on the wrong screen for me, but you can drag it to another screen easily.I've experimented with using my tv as a second screen (which I now only do for watching video, not convenient otherwise in the end). I recall the resolution going down to something like 1024x1. Had to edit that in some config file manually to fix it.
On the patch, though: Woo! More PvE! Haven't played for a while, but I'll have to check out those new dungeons and spells.
Apparently, destriers are gone (armoured horses aren't). While I thought their current (/former) implementation was a bit shallow, I don't like to see them gone entirely. Mounts are quite important, and the space between normal mounts and dire wolves needs filling.
