Oh yes! Darkest Dungeon is now an instant buy for many as it has arrived on Linux in Beta form. Lots of people have been waiting for this gothic roguelike turn-based RPG.

QuoteTo opt into the Linux Public Beta Branch:
Right Click on Darkest Dungeon in your Steam Library
Select Properties
Select BETAs tab
Enter Password “1iheartlinux1”
Hit Check Code, should see a Success message
Select Linux_Beta from the Drop Down Box
Close the Properties Window
Install the Game if it isn’t installed already.
If it is already installed restart Steam if the game isn't currently redownloading (restarting should trigger an update to the game)

They are planning for the beta to last around a week, unless of course lots of issues are found.

I've requested a Steam key to cover it properly, hopefully they will be able to provide me with one.

About the game
Darkest Dungeon is a challenging gothic roguelike turn-based RPG about the psychological stresses of adventuring.

Recruit, train, and lead a team of flawed heroes through twisted forests, forgotten warrens, ruined crypts, and beyond. You'll battle not only unimaginable foes, but stress, famine, disease, and the ever-encroaching dark. Uncover strange mysteries, and pit the heroes against an array of fearsome monsters with an innovative strategic turn-based combat system.

Nice. I'll wait for the first time it goes on sale after the Linux client comes out of beta.

I'm wondering: If we buy right now, will this get counted as a Linux or Windows purchase?

Once it has a downloadable Linux version, direct Steam purchases are fine.

The issues arise with people buying before a Linux version is out, or using keys from resellers.

I'm on this like wheat on bread, yo!

The issues arise with people buying before a Linux version is out...

Oh, great. Now I feel bad. Thanks. :><:

edit: first very quick impressions.

I bought the game back when it was in late beta, shortly before I started spending most of my time in Linux. Because of that, I've only got a couple hours playtime in with it. Enough to know the basics of the game, and to know how well it ran in Windows back when.

Other than it seeming to take a few seconds too long launching (not a big deal, but long enough for me to take note of it), it runs flawlessly. I've gone through the intro section, goofed around in the hamlet, put together a team, and started a trip into the ruins. I've noticed no bugs, crashes, hitches, hiccups or anything else worth mentioning.

It's not the most hardware intensive game ever, but a good port is a good port, and this one seems to be a good port.

Ok, already got it ;-)
It seems to be running well with the open source AMD drivers.

The point is: It is still a beta. Technically the Linux Version isn't out yet. Still conserned to wait until I buy it. Or is it confirmed with a SteamOS logo?

Edit: No SteamOS Logo, no Linux Version, no Linux sale figures. Also I expect that there will be a sale once the Linux version has been released. So let's wait for the release!

The steamOS icon is just a steamOS icon, tons of things have a linux version but have no icon because of dependancy issues causing them not to work 100% out of the box on steamOS. Vavle has seperate depots for each platform so regardless of release status if your pulling the linux depot and playing it you'll be counted for linux.

Rog. Can someone confirm? If so, I am buying this game after Liams positive port report.

I'd like a confirmation of that as well. I simply couldn't wait and went ahead and bought it but it still makes me a bit uneasy to buy a game with no kind of linux-logo that also needs to be activated with a "beta branch password". It certainly doesn't feel like any sort of "official" linux purchase.

i bought it on windows a while ago, and i tried the linux beta last night. i noticed one thing, when entering an adventure the map was empty (as in: i could not go to any rooms) after "giving up" the adventure and re-entering it was fine tho. if it was a one time thing it's no biggie, if it does this every time on launch it will be quite an expensive campaign for me:p

Doesn't seem like I will be getting a key until after the beta ends, sadly.

I would pick it up myself, but it is a bit pricey for my funds atm.

Sweet. I'm looking forward for the Linux version getting released on GOG.com.
