Round Table discussion:

Pros and Cons of Linux as a Gaming Platform

Pros:
-Awesome community developed driver efforts
-Can tailor it for performance, change desktop environment etc.
-Rapidly growing list of games available
-More vendor (distribution platform) support *Steam, GOG, etc.*
-The platform is guaranteed to evolve towards the needs of the industry and its consumers, rather than the needs of a company
-Overall state of Wine gaming (sidetopic: general emulation on linux vs windows) and how far it has cometh - a bit of taboo, but a pro nontheless

Cons:
-Lack of vendor provided/supported drivers
-Lags in behind in OpenGL as opposed to most recent released versions
-Performance not up to par with Windows counterparts *games running at lower FPS*
-The many different *nix distros can be a barrier to developers as far as official support
-We have developers who don’t want to be here Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I have been a gamer since the Atari 2600. I have been a Linux user since the days of Mandrake. Now I am a gamer on Linux. Who would have though that day would ever come to pass?

To get the "window spread" in XFCE4, install skippy-xd ;)
I have it mapped to one of the twelve buttons on my wonderfully supported Roccat Nyth - highly recommended (desktop-switching, window moving, navigation buttons and media control on the rest, such a wonderful mouse).

This is unfortunately true; Armello and a few others would not run for me when I tried Manjaro :( . I went back to Ubuntu MATE (running 16.04 beta, and it's stable as hell).
If you happen to still have a Manjaro install lying around, I'd be keen to know more about this and see if we can get a fix worked out. I've helped the Armello devs work through Linux issues before and would be glad to get to the bottom of what's going on there.

Chances are that it's going to be something that's relevant to other distros (perhaps it could even have been this Steam Runtime issue which wasn't an issue on then-current versions of Ubuntu, but would eventually have been a problem as newer Ubuntu releases started shipping newer libraries). Since these sorts of things usually end up effecting everybody, it's hard to think of them as fragmentation issues.

Thumbs up for Podcast! Not I agree with everything, but it was very very informative. Thanks!

Interesting. What times/dates do you do these podcasts? And what would one have to do to get involved?

This is interesting. It worked for me on my Manjaro. When I am home I will check if this is still the case.

I will be looking into sorting an RSS feed for it in time for the next one.

The podcasts are currently recorded twice a month on saturday night/sunday morning usually at either 10 pm or 12 am UTC. As far as being on them a decent mic and willingness to be recorded is all that is really needed.

Ouch quite late then. If it was an hour earlier I might have been able to pop on myself sometime.
