The time of waiting is nearly over, or so they say. A member of the Rocket League team mentioned on the Steam forum it will be due very soon at the end of Q1 2016.
QuoteWell like I mentioned above it should be coming by the end of Q1 so we should be seeing the SteamOS and OSX versions coming out very soon :)

Correction: The developer meant to say Q2.
QuoteSorry, I misspoke -- we're targeting Q2. Apologies for the mistake

I do hope they wait is really worth it. I've been wanting to play it a lot, and the online multiplayer is still very healthy right now so it would be a great game to have on Linux.
It was originally due before the end of 2015, then Valve caused a delay, so we have been waiting quite some time.
About the game
Soccer meets driving once again in the long-awaited, physics-based multiplayer-focused sequel to Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars! Choose a variety of high-flying vehicles equipped with huge rocket boosters to score amazing aerial goals and pull-off incredible game-changing saves!
Are you still excited? My excitement has worn off a bit after so much waiting, but I imagine when it drops I will be very happy.
Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
I'm getting kinda sick of seeing posts everywhere about this damn game. It's been "coming soon" for months on end. And now it's been delayed AGAIN, making this news post entirely invalid. Awesome.

You should update this post ASAP, it was confirmed in the thread that it won't be out until next quarter. So April at the earliest.

It's a joke. Linux port was supposed to be release before XboxOne.
It was supposed to be released 6 months ago with the steam controller.
Maybe, the game will be released before the end of the world.

The game will release after Half-life 3.

Quoting: ElectricPrismPass. $800 for a headset that requires performance from CPU's and GPU's that barely exist yet.
Maybe developers are excited, but as a gamer I'm not sure I'll ever be excited by VR.
When it's near you (and cheaper perhaps): Do try it out.
It's like having sat in front of a monitor for decades

Murphy's Law dictates that by the time Rocket League releases for Linux, Rocket League player base will have vanished and gone off chasing the next new Windows-only game.

I've been hearing "soon" for half a year now. Soon doesn't mean anything to me any more. Talk to me when it is actually released.

Then we can use the WNBA's old slogan: "it's our turn".
I never realized how self-denigrating that slogan was until now. Yikes.
