Update: A comment found this buried on their forum
The problem is that they were taking pre-orders with Linux listed as a platform, then removed mentions of Linux when they made this announcement. Great that it's still coming, but I do hope they learn to communicate a bit better.

What a surprise. RollerCoaster Tycoon World has seen delays before, and it will now go into Early Access instead of a full release. It has also dropped any mention of Linux/SteamOS from the Steam store page.
Yet another developer previously announcing Linux support, taking pre-orders, and then when it comes to a release they are silent on it. I have contacted them to ask about it, but I've seen others also ask on their Steam forum with no reply. Luckily, they are offering refunds at the moment to anyone who pre-ordered.
Their official website has also removed any mention of different platforms.
Such a shame, was really excited about this title, but their total lack of mentioning Linux/SteamOS and removing it from their pages has me concerned.
I can understand unforeseen issues, but why is openly communicating so hard for some developers? It's aggravating to see this situation arise with another game.
See their announcement about it all here.
Remember guys: Don't pre-order.
QuoteFor all the Mac users out there, Mac is something we are still working on as well as Linux.
Those versions are just not yet ready to ship to the public and need more time.

I noticed the lack of features previously mentioned when I saw their post on Steam this morning. However, I didn't even catch the omission of Linux.
Already removed from my wish list. I have no confidence this game will be worth it in the long run.

I have also removed it from my wishlist. What a farce it has been.

To be fair, with the feedback it's had, leaving it in EA for some time probably isn't such a bad idea.
Real shame about Linux though, RCT 1 and 2 are among my favourite games ever and having a decent and modern Linux version would have been great. At the moment though, it does appear as if this game will not be decent, nor will it be on Linux.

I wouldn't be too worried, if they decided to go on the early access route is because the game still need some polishing, and porting to another platform shouldn't be a priority on this situation.
I hope it will be released to linux once the full version becomes available.

The problem is they were prominently listing Linux as a platform right up until now.

Here is my beef: how was this product originally budgeted? It's not the gamers' bag to fund something to conclusion. The easy assumption is that the finished product will be a fun, polished game. Well, the current track history for this game shows clearly a low chance of that happening.
Development costs money. With each passing month, the expenses are mounting with little to no revenue to offset. They should ask for more funding from the publisher or seek additional capital elsewhere. Early Access may help if there is enough interest but I don't know. Early Access should be the last resort. Since EA wasn't originally on the road map, why should gamers be so gullible to fund them? In the past, a game in this situation would have been canceled. Now, developers have been given a "get out of jail" card that may not help them. I doubt it well help gamers unless relieving you of some money is called "helping".
I wouldn't be shocked if this game is canned late April or early May or released as an unpolished mess with even more features cut.
It's not about just Linux for me. It's about gamers feeding into the commercial beast known as crowd funding and Early Access. The business acumen displayed by some of these developers is a put off for me. I'm not saying it's all bad but for the love of Baby Mario, pick your games to fund wisely. Spend that $50 on indie games or fund another game with a better track record with hopes of being released. =)

Now I wish to see Planet Coaster to be ported to be honest. Not interested in Atari shady business anymore.

Darn, I was looking forward to this. I was going to preorder at full price too so that i could participate in the early access. I'll keep following the game for now, but they won't get my money until Linux playability is more concrete...

I'm just glad i waited instead of forking out money that would have possibly gone to waste. I was a bit leary from the start anyway. only certain devs that have a known good track record with Linux are the ones I will fork money toward in an early access or crowd fund.
Until I see it pop up in the steamdb I'm not going to worry with it. I'm surprised Aspyr hasn't ported RT3. Although I would prefer a wine port of RT2 though, that would be nice :)

Glad I held off preordering - should have seen this coming when the initial betas were Windows only. Oh well, got Parkitect to keep me busy - at least they've kept to their promise of a Linux version rather than the same old story of 'not being ready' - AKA pushed to the side so they're only working on the Windows version and then when they finally get round to doing it it takes far longer than it would have done if they had worked on it at the same time.

Parkitect is going to be great indeed :)

Am I the only one thinking a non-release of RTworld for linux is probably a good thing for the average quality of linux games?
I am much more interested in the alternatives, such as Parkitect

Have you tried [OpenRCT2](https://openrct2.org/)? Just need to install the original (installer works fine with Wine), tell it where to find the files and can play it natively - they've even made a few improvements to the original :)
