I was pretty impressed with StarDrive 2 and how it felt like a new generation of Master of Orion 2, so it's great to see it will get an expansion. Check out the video.

I personally think the game gets too much hate directed at it in reviews, as I found it to be really quite fun. Not perfect for sure, a few bugs but still a good 4X game to have on Linux.

The developer has mentioned that there will be two new ways to win the game, so hopefully that will calm people down who think it's too military and combat orientated. One of these new ways will be a technology victory which is nice, but the other hasn't been mentioned yet other than it being a "hidden" victory.

The developer seems to also be working on performance, as big battles can end up being a bit of a system hog.

Sounds like it may release soon, possibly even tomorrow, will keep you posted. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

It's always hard balancing a game like this because even if you're pursuing a non-military victory, you still have to field a strong army to fight off the players who are, which can make things feel a little lopsided at times. It works in Civilization 5 because you can form alliances that offer a degree of protection. One of my most fun Civ 5 matches was when I maintained a game-long alliance with a powerful neighbor and was able to win a tech victory.

The game ran well until I bought the DLC. Now the dreaded loading hang has appeared, freezing at 3%. Deleting folders simply keeps the game from running at all. I notice that ~/.config/unity3d/Zero Sum Games/StarDrive2 has several of the same folders and contents as Steam/Steamapps/common/StarDrive2/SD2_Data. Is there any way to fix this problem, Liam?

EDIT: The same day, after a patch, the game runs beautifully.
